Re: Racket STGT Nov. 2013 - Teams announced, still time to j
Just wanted to point out "2006-2013" only has 14 picks while the others have 15 each.

Looking at it...I think that was BradTemple...he had 2 picks in the same era (Guwange and Dimahoo iirc) but no pick for 2006-present. I'll pm him...EllertMichael wrote:Just wanted to point out "2006-2013" only has 14 picks while the others have 15 each.

No need for a pm, toss one to Muchi Muchi Pork and keep Guwange. You mentioned that game and reminded me that I have been meaning to finally buy a copy for myself.mjmjr25 wrote:Looking at it...I think that was BradTemple...he had 2 picks in the same era (Guwange and Dimahoo iirc) but no pick for 2006-present. I like the idea of listing games more than once.
It's chaotic.

Personally I'd like to see games mentioned more than once only listed once.
Otherwise it just comes back to voting (not chaotic) and we might as well list the picks now:
Dogyuun
Guwange
Pro Gear
Muchi Muchi Pork
(Three CAVE games
)

Yup. Feels like we're basically doing that but less formally than we do for SOTM.EllertMichael wrote:

Those are games I want to play - that others picked same games doesn't much matter to me - i'm not changing my picks because others posted theirs first.
Picking 3 CAVE games, eh, if all of 'em were going to win, then a case is made to mix it up. Seeing as that is unlikely - it behooves me to select games I haven't played but would actually be able to play if selected. If anything MAME only wins, i'm already out.
...and that said, Pro Gear / Guwange / MMP play and score NOTHING alike from everything i've seen and read, so it's irrelevant they are from the same developer.

I get that you don't like MAME, but basically any shmup from 2000 or earlier will run just fine in almost any build of MAME on any computer made in the past 7-8 years or so. I'd hate to see you sit out for something that you can't get a PCB for (or that wasn't on a console) just because you are ruling out MAME by default...mjmjr25 wrote:If anything MAME only wins, i'm already out.

Democracy. Evidently the opinion above is the minority, or more people would be selecting different games. Everyone is free to change their picks if they want to...the system itself is fine, it's up to individuals to make their picks.dsheinem wrote:Yup. Just because a game is known, doesn't mean it's been played. Everyone acts like Guwange, Pro Gear, and Muchi Muchi Pork are mainstream. MMP, maybe, the others...no. I've never even played 3 of the games I nominated.
Since some keep comparing this to STGT on shmups, lets not forget 2 of the last 4 years there was voting and lobbying involved.
@dsh and MAME comment above - I don't hate MAME, not at all, my frustration has ALWAYS been that i've spent more time trying to get a build up and running and then compatible w/controllers than actually playing. I've tried on both of my PC's (HP and Lenovo) and my laptop (Compaq Presario). I've asked the people who do well with MAME and seem to have no issues to post a step by step for those of us struggling, but instead it's always comments like, "wolfmame works good".

Disagree: Mechanics are all different.
In a vote: Winning is chose by tally. The nomination with the most votes tallied is guaranteed a win, and all other nominations (with the least votes) are guaranteed a loss.
In a random selection: Winning is chosen by selection. A name with the most amount of nominations may or may not win, and a name with the least about of nominations may or may not win. The number of nominations only increases the chance of selection, but does not guarantee a win. Only selection guarantees a win.
And if I'm playing a Cho Aniki game, I'm gonna be ticked!
