That kind of situation is pretty common according to the cops in my town. I have no idea whether the man getting thrown out is usually guilty, but it's standard procedure to eject guys from their houses if someone complains the right way.

Most police departments have jailing the man as a standard procedure in any case possibly involving rape or domestic violence, even if he's the victim. Not all, some arrest both.


Apparently it's a huge issue for them because they are often forced to work with very little information.

I'll try to keep it really to the point but there are a lot of factors. A few hours ago I heard that a friend of mine has been arrested and may be facing a felony (the only friend I've made since I recently moved, so it is pretty sad news for me).

Taken out of context, this sounds really really self centered.

But rest assured, the legal system will work things out appropriately.

I just meant that I'm talking about someone I personally know, and not some random guy from an article or something. Even out of context though, I don't think it sounds that self centered to be saddened by hearing that a friend got convicted of a felony. If I said it was sad news because now he can't do me favors anymore or something, then it would be self centered.

Well, given the possibility he is guilty of raping someone who is disabled...

My High School QB, and ladies man, raped a disabled girl. No one seemed to care. It happens.

Not saying your friend is guilty, but how can he be "convicted" at this point? If he was convicted then that is much more than being detained. That means a trial was held and he was found guilty of rape. Evidence, reasonable doubt and such...and I don't think the court system moves that quickly these days.

And the common defense against this way too often committed crime is "She's crazy. She's always causing trouble. She's special needs and doesn't know what she is talking about".

I used the wrong word, like I said I know very little about this legal stuff. I wasn't sure what word to use really and didn't feel like looking it up. Charged, accused? You get the idea though, he's been brought in and I guess there is going to be a "preliminary" first.

People are getting fired left and right. One of the only people I talk to got escorted out of the building when I came into work. Several supervisors were let go without notice, and we slashed our day time techs in half (not literally of course). I'm nervous, because I'm definitely the weakest link on the graveyard shift. I was confronted with some really shitty options yesterday and I'm not sure how this is going to turn out. Looks like me fighting for that promotion for the past month maybe for naught, and my time in Houston may end at the one year mark.

But seriously, that really sucks. Have you tried looking around to see if you can maybe catch a different job in the area just in case? I mean that's assuming you even want to stick around in Texas.
