Rocky Mount? That is where I was born and where I spent the first two years of my life. I can't say I have been back recently - since it is about a seven-hour trip form Charlotte - but I am always glad to see fellow forum members meeting up.

So I just mailed a NES box back to an idiot that just put it in a bubble pack flattened without any corrugated cardboard to keep it from getting bent, so of course it arrived with a ton of creases in it. So I pick up my mail on the way home and what do I have? 2 Genesis games in the latter flimsy cardboard boxes and they were sent in a freaking bubble pack. There was some flat cardboard on either side, but with no edge support it got crushed. Gargoyles will be ok but Skeleton Krew is fucked up. So much for buying what was a nice copy.

Thanks to both dickheads for destroying things that had surviced 15+ years with their stupidity.

:D :D :D

Finally got my US NES !!!

No more 50Hz slowdown, no more black borders, no more squashed graphics.

Now all I need is a PowerPak and that Universal PPU when it comes out and I will be in 8bit Heaven... ^^

I almost started laughing maniacally when I tested my PAL copy of SMB on it. Somehow Nintendo fucked up while trying to optimize this game for the European market and sped up the music too much. So when you put the PAL version in an NTSC machine it actually speeds the music up even more. Spasm inducing insane. Love it... :P

That's really interesting that the music was already sped up! I was fascinated to discover that chiptune composers tried to standardize their music playback, since I wasn't aware the playack was an issue until a few years ago. Because chiptune music tempo was dependent on framerate, so many old tunes were composed in 150bpm because it was a tempo shared by both NTSC and PAL (NTSC = 30p, PAL = 25p, 150 = a multiple of each) and therefore guaranteed that the music could be programmed to come out at the same speed in both regions.

So you've got something that's already accelerated in tempo from the "canon version" for some reason, and then yes, putting it into an NTSC machine would crank it up even more! I'm amused.

:( Been sick for a while. Nothing major, just coughing and hacking up mucus. My brother and possibly my mom think it's tied to the mold smell in our motel room lately.

 Found out that I'm not getting hours next week, either. Gonna try to get a job at Denny's.

:D Tomorrow, there's a blood donation thing at the park and if you donate blood, you get a free movie pass. I'm gonna do it...

:?: As soon as I remember when and where it is!

Today I present you with a totally fucked up situation that most people probably aren't going to want to touch with a 50 foot pole. Hopefully someone can comment though because it is an absolute mess of a situation regarding law that I know nothing about (flashes prfsnl_gmr beam).

I'll try to keep it really to the point but there are a lot of factors. A few hours ago I heard that a friend of mine has been arrested and may be facing a felony (the only friend I've made since I recently moved, so it is pretty sad news for me). His stepdaughter accused him of rape. I know crazy things can happen and sometimes you discover you've been living next to a serial killer, but let's just assume that it is extremely unlikely that this claim is even close to true. The girl is 20, and is mentally handicapped. She is a lunatic and causes the parents all sorts of hell. My initial reaction to all this, is horror - can you seriously be removed from your home and thrown in jail simply by the claim of someone with no proof or evidence whatsoever? Because that's what happened to this guy, they got a warrant and locked him up that day, with zero proof or evidence (at least this is my understanding). This is our law system?

Quick pertinent background information, everyone is pretty much assuming her new boyfriend manipulated her into doing this. The parents would not allow her to move in with this guy (he has a large criminal record, and they have known each other for two weeks). The idea is that he probably said, just get rid of the guy not allowing you to do what you want and accuse him of rape. It's looking like the girl is about to get on disability, so he is probably looking to get her locked down and feed on that.

To me, it looks clear as day that there is not even a case here. There is nothing substantial to make this claim. It's the word of an honest and hard working guy versus a mentally handicapped person that is essentially a child. But it seems like most of the time in these cases, they rule in favor of the "victim".
