having adored SMT IV, I'm def planning to pick up another DS/3DS installment. But which? I'm leaning towards either Strange Journey or Soul Hackers.

Soul Hackers is alright. Haven't played SJ yet. No interest in Devil Survivor Overclocked?

I have interest in any/all of them, haha.ZenErik wrote:Soul Hackers is alright. Haven't played SJ yet. No interest in Devil Survivor Overclocked?
SJ was one that I had been wanting to play since it came out.
And Soul Hackers I just figured would be cool since it was also released 2013.

Why not play 3, aka Nocturne? 4 basically a sequel to that gamenoiseredux wrote:having adored SMT IV, I'm def planning to pick up another DS/3DS installment. But which? I'm leaning towards either Strange Journey or Soul Hackers.

because I'm finding that I have a better chance of sticking with an RPG if I play it on a portable.Menegrothx wrote:Why not play 3, aka Nocturne? 4 basically a sequel to that gamenoiseredux wrote:having adored SMT IV, I'm def planning to pick up another DS/3DS installment. Amen. That's one of the only reasons I didn't start Nocturne right after finishing SMTIV. Could use a Vita or 3DS port.noiseredux wrote:because I'm finding that I have a better chance of sticking with an RPG if I play it on a portable.Menegrothx wrote:Why not play 3, aka Nocturne? 4 basically a sequel to that gamenoiseredux wrote:having adored SMT IV, I'm def planning to pick up another DS/3DS installment. Are there PS2 emulators on PS Vita?

I'd say go with SJ over SH. Soul Hackers definitely shows its age; it was originally a Saturn game and the 3DS release is a port, not a remake. And when I say shows its age, I mean mechanics-wise. This was from the era before weakness meant anything besides "take more damage from this element".

yeah I actually had the Saturn version!MrPopo wrote:I'd say go with SJ over SH. Soul Hackers definitely shows its age; it was originally a Saturn game and the 3DS release is a port, not a remake. But Strange Journey does look really cool. Hoping to still find the soundtrack bundle at reasonable price.

I've played SJ, and it's a bit like the first SMT games from the Super Famicom, in that they're first-person dungeon-style games (like Wizardry, The Bard's Tale, et al), but it's ultimately a different beast.ZenErik wrote:Soul Hackers is alright. Haven't played Soul Hackers, but you can buy it digitally from the 3DS eShop. I wish there was a demo for that and SMT4, but it seems like companies would rather people try the game AFTER plunking down a fat stack of cash, even though a demo could help people more than just telling them to buy it and hope they like it. Seriously, though, every game should have a demo. Otherwise, how do you know it's any good?
And I like Devil Survivor Overclocked, but there's no real use for the 3DS's 3D display for anything other than the intro, but it did include the 8th Day not featured in the DS version. They're working on a 3DS remake of Devil Survivor 2, but it's not even out in Japan yet (it's slated for sometime this fall).
