The thought of another Metroid or Zelda (not BS or anything, a real one) on the SNES... my mind explodes.

I'm surprised neither one got a sequel, as early as they came out.

When did Gumpei Yokoi leave Nintendo? Maybe that had something to do with it

well we did get an amazing sequel to Super Metroid on the GBA, the GBA is basically a portable SNES. I always wished someone talented would port a romhack Metroid Fusion to the snes so I could make a repro cart. We are getting a sequel to Link to the past on the 3DS soon.

Well Virtual Boy came out a year after Super Metroid, but I don't think that's the reason and the game was more Yoshio Sakamoto's baby if anything.

Super Metroid was a lot more popular in the west than in Japan as I understand it. Also it came out in 1994 and took a year and a half to make so a sequel would've been out pretty late in the life of the SNES. There was an effort to make a sequel on the N64 but it didn't go anywhere because they apparently weren't happy with the early attempts to bring Metroid into 3D.

For Zelda however, yeah it's a wonder there wasn't a sequel on the SNES.

When he was murdered.

I always felt that Link's Awakening felt like a fitting sequel to Link to the Past. My two favorite Zelda games by far.

That's true I wasn't thinking about that. It's the same Link even if I recall correctly. They're my favorites as well.

I actually consider Link's Awakening superior :P

And yes it's the same Link.

Maybe the SNES team worked ont he Game Boy version too and thus they got tired of working on Zelda all the time and got moved elsewhere? Who knows.
