Yeah that's pretty much how I feel also. I thought it was fun for the first 10 minutes but overall it was a $hit game. It had the worst/dumbest fatalities of all the MK series also IMO.

Always wanted MK1 on Sega CD if for nothing else than the music video that's supposedly in it.

You guys who think MK4 and MKGold is bad should check out War Gods. It wasn't released on a Sega console, but I bring it up because it was basically a test to see if 2D Mortal Kombat could work as a 3D game. Personally, I think it's a terrible game, but I've only played the Nintendo 64 version.

War Gods is hilariously bad. It doesn't matter which version.

Probably the absolute worst fighting game I have ever played was "Battle Monsters" on the Saturn. If you ever have the chance to play it, don't.

You know, it's pretty amazing just how good the SNES version of the first Mortal Kombat looks. I just wish they could have gotten away with less censorship.

We need more of these videos for MK3 and UMK3.

This has been said before, but...
That falls into the "so bad it's good" category.
I don't know, I always come away from Battle Monsters having a good time with it. It has a cheese factor (unintentional, I think) that just tickles me.

Been a while though, I may have just been in a weird mood the few times I played it. (also enjoy me some Toshinden on Saturn and once played Criticom with no bad memories, so maybe bad fighters are a thing with me  )
...just another lost soul...

When I first saw them, I thought the SNES looked more close to arcade-perfect. Then I found out they were gonna censor it, and vented on Prodigy's Games Bulletin Board. This was back in 1993, and the whole onion on the belt thing was no longer close to being the style of the time.

If they had kept the blood in, it would have beaten the Genesis port quite handily. Too bad that port looks and sounds bad.

Then MKII came, and the SNES port was the best.

I looked at the video again, and the Sega CD port, heck, even the DOS port of the first game looked great.

The only time I played a home port of an MK game (before this gen) was the Mega Drive port of UMK3, so for me the series will always feel kind of Sega-y

Yes I know the better ports were on the SNES (if you exclude add-on versions from what I can tell), but it always felt that Street Fighter was more Nintendo and Mortal Kombat was more Sega (if that makes any sense).

It's probably cause I remember playing SF2 at a friend's snes and I only ever saw MK on Sega consoles (none of the people who I knew with SNESs seemed to own a copy) and so my childhood impression stayed with me.

The load times on the Saturn kills the MKs enjoyment. My brother and I tried to play, but like to get match after match with no waits.
Honestly I was probably just spoiled by the high-quality of MKII for 32X and felt like MK3 was a step down.

But before this thread, I didn't even know there was a port of Ultimate MK3; I had only encountered "original" MK3!
