Pay attention. This debate isn't about hardcore gamers, although that term gets thrown around in some of my posts. It's about hardcore games, and classifying games as hardcore or casual.
Despite my better instincts, I have paid attention to this topic, and after this post, I do not plan on repeating my unfortunate mistake.
Menegrothx wrote:In case that's some sort of a personal jab: I've never claimed to be a hardcore gamer on this forum. I've been "borderline hardcore" in the past, but I never managed to break the glass ceiling despite excessive time use.
It wasn't a personal jab. It was advice. Here is some more advice:

If debating the meaning of "hardcore games" is a central part of someone's identity, then he should seriously reconsider his priorities and what he hopes to get out of life. Likewise, if someone insists on debating the meaning of "hardcore games" in threads completely unrelated to the topic, then he is annoying his fellow forum members and, for their sake if nothing else, should reconsider making any more posts on the subject.

Such a hardcore post.

I wouldn't use terms "stupid and idiotic" if I were that bad at understanding my own native language. This argument is how you can classify a game as hardcore or not (what makes a game hardcore).

I think we need a clear definition of what hardcore and casual games are.

->I replied, with my definition
->Jmustang1968 got mad at me for answering that question

Nope. I just pointed out that there is a well respected retro gaming site with the word "hardcore" in it's title. Doesn't mean that every retro gaming or every hardcore gaming related site should have the word in the title.

If talking on a retro game forums about video games is a central part of someone's identity then he should seriously reconsider his priorities and what he hopes to get out of life.
Who said that debating this issue is a central part of my identity? That is the most inane "counter argument" I've ever heard, you could apply it to any political or any debate and it would make just as much sense and be equally useless.

You are not the OP of this thread, RCBH928 is. And who asked that question in the first place? RCBH928 did. And I answered. And then Jmustang1968 started whining how my answer to that question was wrong, with out providing a better alternative.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

That's what people who are hardcore say

I would not use such phrases if JMustang1968 provided a better example himself. If you criticize my definition and call it narrow-minded (when my definition of the term covers many styles of genres and types of gamers, and is apparently too broad because of it), then you better show me a better one.
I don't really care what professional wrestlers and actual people who are "hardcore" say. If all the people who were "hardcore" were jumping off a bridge, would you? The phrase is crude and unnecessary, regardless of what Jmustang says, and when couple with some of the language we've gotten in this thread, leads me to think this will only accelerate into an argument.

And then I have to do my job. And I hate doing my job! Come on, people, think of the Acks. It's bad enough I have to clean up after Ds.

Whining? I was annoyed that this tired argument was brought up again after being argued 2 different times in another thread.

Funny it seems how everyone else got my argument and points except for you. Don't you think it is time to just stop and move along?
