The term geek is over saturated these days and doesn't mean a damn thing. Everybody considers themselves a geek just because they're interested in <insert whatever>. Geek used to be used as an insult, because I was "weird", wore giant glasses, and liked computers. I like Godzilla films, Star Trek and anime. All those things made me a "geek". Now all you have to do is like Star Wars and Dr. Who and you're automatically a geek.
Bleh... I'm a Jinx.

Re: Are You a Geek?
It is true that it has lost a lot of meaning. It was an insult, then a term of endearment, it interchanged with nerd, dork etc. People who argue about its definition are just arguing semantics. It can mean whatever people want it to mean.jinx wrote:The term geek is over saturated these days and doesn't mean a damn thing. I spent last night building a Tom Servo. Either that makes me insane, or a geek...

Awesome would be if I was building Gypsy. Since her childs car seat head goes for $500 if you can find it, and it rarely pops up - since it was sold in 1980.Luke wrote:...or awesome.fastbilly1 wrote:I spent last night building a Tom Servo. Either that makes me insane, or a geek...

I'm kind of a snob...which, in many ways, is very similar to being a geek. Besides video games, I greatly enjoy antiques, art, film, food, and wine. (The magazine basket besides my toilet includes Game Informer, Arts & Crafts Home, Bon Apetit, and The Magazine Antiques, among others.) While I have been to only one rock concert in the past five years, I have seen six operas, and I subscribe to Hulu+ for unfettered access to its immense libary of Criterion Collection films. Finally - while I have favorite baseball, basketball, and baseball teams - the only sport I keep up with is collegiate rowing.

Ah, I say original parts aren't needed.fastbilly1 wrote:Awesome would be if I was building Gypsy. Frown: It's incredible how little things can be frustrating. Like ironing a shirt only to iron in more wrinkles than you get out. The guy who wrote "Don't sweat the small stuff" probably doesn't iron his own clothes and dribble coffee on his shirt and tie.
I feel like Cathy or Garfield...can't wait for the weekend to get here.
Re: Are You a Geek?
Game Informer should be in the toilet, not next to it. And Bon Apetit? Step up your game and subscribe to Cook's Illustrated*. We should have a snob-off: My last major purchase was a Henri Matisse signed lithograph. Snob-off!prfsnl_gmr wrote:I'm kind of a snob...which, in many ways, is very similar to being a geek. *It really is an incredible magazine. It's basically America's Test Kitchen in print.

Re: Are You a Geek?
I agree original parts are not needed, but her chair is very specific. So I am going to be hitting up a children's clothing sale soon looking for a seat that is close. A friend of mine has a 4ftx4ft vacuum table so we can probably make it work. Though I may be able to source an original off of another bot builder just to pull it in purple.
prfsnl_gmr,
I was unaware of this girth of Criterion on Hulu+, now I have a reason to look into it. Thanks.
