Trying to play Fallout 3
Re: Trying to play Fallout 3
I had to update my 360 to play Silent Hill 5, so...yeah. Thankfully in most cases the required update is included with the game. Consoles are slowly becoming more and more like PCs.

Re: Trying to play Fallout 3
Hearing this I think way back to some of the first computers I gamed on and the installation process of games for it.
Playing a game on my Tandy... horror. Don't even ask me the specs, lets just say OLD.
Playing a game on my super powered 75mhz Intel PC with an amazing 16 megs of RAM... HA. I remember games on CD were coming more common and I couldn't even do a full install of a game. My hard drive was to small...
shit my hard drive was 570megs, the CD was larger!
I was young, and it was the day I learned the difference between memory and disk space despite Windows calling disk space memory.
I think I pumped a bajillion hours into Descent and Quarantine on that old beast. Oh there's another one, Quarantine! Remember when we had those really fun 'keys' to boot the game. Quarantine was a purple piece of construction paper that couldn't be photocopied, at boot up it gave you a code that had a corresponding code on the purple paper. Put it in and you could play.
Or say you bought a game and ignored the Required System Specs on the side, got home and found out you needed some type of upgrade on your system. Nope, you ain't going online to download it, because the internet was... well... not available! You know, that's why those Requirements are printed on the side... if you're still using an OS almost 8 years old how could you be surprised you need an update for a new game!?

Man, that takes me back to when my family first got the Internet, and my dad downloaded the shareware version of Doom. It took 36 hours.
Good times!

aww damn! Yeah, I remember hanging out on FTP sites sharing sega cd games on a 28.8 baud modem. FUN!

The pirated copy does indeed install pre-cracked, with none of this hassle that the retail copy has. They'll never learn, I suppose. Yet another example of copy-protection harming no one but the good customers.

Actually i had to install .net 3.0.PharmaceuticalCowboy wrote:SP3 is out for XP... sorry but base XP sucks. I just can't fathom why someone would want to leave the amount of security loopholes that are in there, its very similar to the initial problems with Vista. Anyway, just be grateful you don't have to install the .net framework... now there is something to complain about. Oh and today's consoles do make you update before you can play games... the prime example that I am familiar with is Super Mario Galaxy.

Yeah but they are generally small updates only relevent to that game. Not entire service packs that a user might not want.PharmaceuticalCowboy wrote:Oh and today's consoles do make you update before you can play games... the prime example that I am familiar with is Super Mario Galaxy.
And out of curiosity, what's wrong with .net framework? I've never heard someone have a problem with it before.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Re: Trying to play Fallout 3
I'm about sick of this game, all because of the autosave crashes to desktop. It is happening more and more, exactly like it did in Oblivion. Basically, after about 15 hours of playtime, the save file becomes so massive that the game has trouble saving to it everytime, and just crashes. They never fixed it with Oblivion, and we had to rely on savefile cleaner tools, which basically erased semi-important information like locations of dead bodies and items your left.
