I have seen this with actors specifically. There would come a time that an actor would seem at the top of his game, like the spotlight was on him. Then over time, this actor becomes a no body. Personally I think some one behind the scenes is doing this on purpose because it just does not make sense to me. I can give you examples.
Nicolas Cage: This guy in the mid 90's was huge star with a collection of great movies . Now he is a nobody, in fact they keep making fun of him in social media sites.
Jeff Goldblum: This guy seemed to be the icon of blockbuster movies in the same era. Today he is hardly remembered.
Nicole Kidman: She was once the highest paid acterss I believe. Today the name Nicole Kidman probably will not draw any attention.
Jim Carrey: Any one who remembers this guy from The Mask days knows he was one of greatest comedy actors with a serial of funny movies including : The Mask, Liar Liar, Ace Venture, Dumb and Dumber .
Ben Afflect: This guy is trying to hang in there but I see him hardly succeeding. His name was enough to sell a movie.
Adam Sandler: Good laughs . Today his movies are hardly grabbing any attention.
Freddie Prinze, jr: Where is this guy?
Matthew Lillard: Is he not talented any more?
Julia Roberts: You know about this actress too
You get the idea. This also can be seen in the music industry . The Spice Girls once were the biggest thing in the music industry, today no one remembers them. They are not even that old, they are still in their 30's so i doubt that you could name them from a "different era" .
Some other media stars keep hanging in there like DiCaprio and Maddona that has been surviving over the decades and changing style. But I just can't help and think why some of these guys were given the big push with some really good movies/albums and then they kind of faded away.
I do not believe they lost the talent, which makes me think that some one behind the scenes made them the stars and then just swept it away from them for some reason . Otherwise it makes no sense. Talent doesn't die. If anything it gets better over time.

Why does stardom fade?
Re: Why does stardom fade?
Society moves on to the next thing. We want new things because they're interesting and different. Once you're old, your out. Just like a new game or pair of shoes. Once the novelty wears off it's on to the next thing.

Affleck is about to be Batman and just won an Oscar for Argo. I'd say he's pretty much at the top of his game right now, and he's not much like the other people on your list (many of whom are doing just fine).RCBH928 wrote: Ben Afflect: This guy is trying to hang in there but I see him hardly succeeding. That it's a bit ridiculous, frankly.RCBH928 wrote:What is your opinion on this topic?

It doesn't. You seem to remember everyone you mentioned.
Everyone on your list is either working on a new project or is too busy enjoying their success.

He is right about Adam sandler, I havn't found any of his movies funny since the late 90s early 2000s.

His movies suck, but he's still considered a star and continues to pocket super wads of money.ninjainspandex wrote:He is right about Adam sandler, I havn't found any of his movies funny since the late 90s early 2000s.

At least in the case of the Spice Girls, like most manufactured bands they were garbage that just managed to be a fad for a short while but didn't really have talent to back it up. They were just cheap frosting on someone else's hastily made cake. Exceptions off the top of my head that did endure or had later bumps in their popularity because they had actual talent would be The Monkees, Justin Timberlake, and maybe Ricky Martin (Menudo)?

Began playing every part the same and way over the top. People got bored with him and his Elvis obsession.Nicolas Cage: This guy in the mid 90's was huge star with a collection of great movies . Now he is a nobody, in fact they keep making fun of him in social media sites.
Still fondly remembered he has just moved onJeff Goldblum: This guy seemed to be the icon of blockbuster movies in the same era. Today he is hardly remembered.
SameNicole Kidman: She was once the highest paid acterss I believe. Today the name Nicole Kidman probably will not draw any attention.
People still want to see him but he let his acting hit a plateau and people became bored with the same character all the timeJim Carrey: Any one who remembers this guy from The Mask days knows he was one of greatest comedy actors with a serial of funny movies including : The Mask, Liar Liar, Ace Venture, Dumb and Dumber .
Still doing the same as he always was reallyBen Afflect: This guy is trying to hang in there but I see him hardly succeeding. His name was enough to sell a movie.
Terrible actor in all honesty. He made some really funny movies for a bit then began churning out trash. He was a phaseAdam Sandler: Good laughs . Today his movies are hardly grabbing any attention.
He was never liked for his acting, he was a heart throb.Freddie Prinze, jr: Where is this guy?
He let himself get typecast over and over and picked really mediocre movies. Once he became Shaggy there was no going back. He should of stuck with indies and let his actual range shine.Matthew Lillard: Is he not talented any more?
People still love Julia it just isn't really her time anymore and I'm sure she doesn't need to or feel like being in every movie anymore.Julia Roberts: You know about this actress too

Thirty (closer to forty) years in Hollywood is a phase? He is, and will remain one of the highest paid actors of this decade. Happy Madison, his production company, is still making bank with new projects, dvd sales, syndicated movies, etc.KDub wrote: Adam Sandler:

The man is a Mogul, not a phase. He was on the Cosby Show when he was a kid, on MTV in his teens, on SNL and dropping award winning albums while becoming an adult, and has consistently put out movies (some of them terrible) from 1996 to 2016. That's like saying Tom Cruise "was just a phase".
Sandler is still a powerhouse in Hollywood. The duder makes money hand over fist, and will continue to do so until he calls it quits.
