This gen. is over . Do you hold highly any console?

Post by RCBH928 »

Sorry , couldn't title it any better.

So, do you think any of the current consoles will have a special place in your heart in the future? Over the years consoles like Saturn, Dreamcast, and SNES were very special to many people. Do you think any console this generation, including handhelds, took a special place in your heart?

Even though I have the image of a Nintendo-hater in this forum, I think the Wii might take this place simply because of the Wiimotion ability. Many people in the future will feel very nostalgic about Wii Sport, and the fact that the Wii sold like crazy making it a pop culture icon of the late 2000's .

The 360 would have taken that place but somehow over the years it doesn't feel special anymore. It really had something going for it with the first HD console, active online community, Arcade, Achievements, and the free packaged mic to talk with others online.

Dude. This gen has the rest of this year, plus next year left in it. There's still a bit left to go.

Yes, the DS. The PS3 was the best system this gen, and I own more games for it than any other current-gen console but the DS is what holds the special place in my heart. Playing Phoenix Wright on my DS Lite on the weekends while it's snowing outside when I was 16, going out shopping my my mom on my birthday to buy NSMB, and discovering the best GBA games to play using the bottom port (I was late to the GBA party) is something I can't recreate. It only helps that my first playthrough of Chrono Trigger was on the DS as well.

I bought my PS3 as an older, more jaded (multiple RRODs will do that to ya) gamer, so I have no real sentimental attachment to it even though it's my favorite. It's all business with my PS3.

You're so right. Such a strong start, and then such a decline. PS3 slowly gained everything that made the 360 special, while MS began to focus more and more on the casual and "brogamer" market (hint: not me) so even though I started this gen as a 360 owner, it's just a Halobox for me now. That, and the two aforementioned RRODs keep me from caring much about my 360.

The PS3 for me. It's my first real console where I really became a part of the community. The PS2 will always be special to me but the PS3 is really when I started to learn and get into video games a lot.

Xbox 360. The library of quality games and exclusives is still impressive to me and it is still my most played console to date. I went to EB in September of 2010 and picked up the FFXIII Xbox bundle, along with about ten used games, including Dead Space, Gears of War, Halo 3, and Bioshock. Needless to say, I was hooked on the system after that. The only downside to the system is that has become rather week in the RPG department, the ONLY department where the PS3 has eclipsed it.

The PS3 never impressed me during the beginning and middle years of this generation - the exclusives were very weak (Killzone, oh boy!) and I never felt it had more to offer than the 360. Only now am I becoming infatuated with the system :)

The Wii is almost in a class by itself, considering graphics, games, and target audience. I like the Wii (for what it is) but I haven't really put enough time into it to really develop a love for it.

Oddly, only the Wii. I'll Wii bowl for the rest of my life, everything else is fairly forgettable (although I do love Child of Eden).

CoE is still best of gen for me.

For me I'd pick the PS3 if I could only pick one console. But Xbox 360 is where it's at for shmups... And a decent portion of my favorite PS3 games were also on 360 so I'd say the 360 isn't far behind, by any means. Just happens that I tend to purchase multi-platform games on PS3 for as few reasons.

Wii I still haven't explored enough. DS and PSP are both very nice too. Still only beginning to explore the awesome PSP RPGs available.
My B/S/T thread! :)

The DS has a really great library. Some of its games are downright classics, like the Ouendan series and it has dozens of solid titles people will still play in the future like Phoenix Wright or all those JRPGs.

The PSP has an incredible port of OutRun 2006. I might buy it just to play that title. Everything else is uninteresting, though, I would rather stick with my GCW Zero.

I can't think of many PS3/Xbox games I would like to own and most of the titles I find interesting were also released for PC, so there's no pressure. The 360 has a lot of cool shmups, though, which is a bonus but I haven't played the classics so I have no need to buy expensive Japanese imports.

The Wii was fun while it lasted but I can't really think of any classic titles in it. Brawl was amazing but it will become obsolete sooner or later. Everything else is just solid as far as I remember.

psp for sure, with it being so easily hacked its been amazing having literally thousands of games in my pocket at all times. The PSP truely the king of RPGs, I don't think any other system (aside from PC) can boast having more RPGs available than the psp. I have a feeling i will be using the psp for many years to come.

Wii - Not only for its interesting takes on games, but for Skyward Sword. A close runner up would be the DS. The DS had alittle bit of everything, and when it hit, it hit hard.
