I can't beat the final bosses on Cave Story, but oh my god, I love it to death, it's just been awhile since I've played it. It's pretty hard (I have it on 3DS ((Eshop)) which gives me hand cramps) but I don't agree with this review much. I found it to be a great game and you also have to remember it was originally a labor of love and was developed over a span of 5 years by one guy, which is impressive.
*also excuse my sentances possibly sounding wonky i'm super sick and can't hardly think straight*

I loved Cave Story until I reached the last boss and gave up on it

Well, why do you disagree? I can't know if you don't say it!

Seems like many gave up where I did.

Re: Erik Twice Reviews thread - Netrunner > Videogames
I'm writing a huge strategy guide for a Netrunner deck and it turned out to be very popular. Normally I have like 10 hits a day, 40 for a super popular article like Cave Story but this Netrunner guide? It has given me more than 1000 hits in two days and it was only the first part.
Crazy. You guys should play the game so you can understand it!

We only play retro games here, so a demake for the Amiga or SNES (though this feels more like a Sega game, so Mega Drive would be a better fit) would be the only way we'd try it out

I tend to write about whatever strikes my fancy but I think I should actually care a bit about what I write more. So feel free to make me any suggestions, because I'm bored

Re: Erik Twice Reviews thread - Recommend me games to review
Some suggestions:
Abuse, due to the great controls
Braid, I think it is a masterpiece and I am interested in discussion on it
Gish, interesting mechanics
Hostages, a nice mix of different gameplay in a single game
It Came from the Desert, a nice mix of different gameplay in a single game
Putty / Silly Putty / Super Putty (?), interesting mechanics. I recommend the SNES version, but you can try the Amiga version as well if you want
Realms of Arkania (the computer version, not the paper Schwarzen Auge thing), quite heavy CRPG that is not based on D&D.
I think those would suit you and could give interesting articles.

I must be the only one thos thinks this isn't true.
I just didn't like how trial and error some of the later stages were.

I'm pretty sure other people would agree with you.
The game is certainly not perfect.
I would say trial and error is pretty integral to Braid - and part of the message I believe it is trying to convey. In fact fairly early in the game there is a stage which in pretty much any other game I would say would be cheap / bad game design* (you are climbing stairs and an enemy just basically without warning drops from the top and invariably hits you the first time you are doing it) - it not only makes sense in the game, it very elegantly drives this point home.
About the later stages (I think you refer to world 6) there is a bit of fine-tuning sometimes with the positioning, which can be a bit frustrating, I agree. But I think it still falls within the "communicating something through the gameplay/mechanics" and it is still enjoyable. It is also at least somewhat natural that some of these later levels are a bit more challenging.
* Curiously enough, another game I find to be a masterpiece, Half-Life, has a pretty similar situation with a particular laser shot. But in Half-Life there is at least a little bit of warning, but I think it was also designed in a way that you will often get killed the first time through the level, which is quite nasty unless the player is Quick Saving often - which not everyone likes to do.
