The bucs linebacker made a bone headed play, not the ref.

Of course Kraft is happy his team won. Is he supposed to not care?

It's not fucking tag football. One foot in and a gentle push.I guess a gentle push while being half in-bounds calls for a penalty during this "post-concussion" era (boo-hoo).

Kraft makes a hundo thousand while pooping. He's happy because he's making millions because rubes wait in line for season tickets because of a first game win. I don't blame him, never will.

I am just amazed that the Lions didn't completely blow it. They had 3 touchdowns taken away by review and a 4th touchdown taken away by a reckless penalty.

Add to it that, aside from the huge run Adrian Peterson had, we shut him completely down. We had so many penalties, which we need to work on, but Reggie Bush just changed the game for us.

Also, get ready for the future of football. There were so many long winded touchdown reviews that the game seemed to go on forever and touchdowns were overturned by thing like Completing the Process, which was another touchdown overturned for us in this game. The other two were down by contact inches from the endzone. I know that it helps in the long run in getting things accurate, but it took forever. We had an almost four hour long game.

Embarrassing loss for the Steelers today. Also could be losing 2 key players for the season due to injuries.

It's beginning to look a lot like last season.

If it is a lost season, at least the rivalry with the Brows will be a rivalry again - bad team vs bad team.

Yup. The past thirty out of fifty episodes of OTL were all about Concussions and whiny football players arguing about calls (well, the whiny players have a point that it's becoming a sissy sport). I don't want Bolt running with a ball. Walter would shake off horse collar tackles left and right with a backwards stiff arm. THAT is what I want.

Oh come off it. This macho posturing about football becoming a "sissy sport" completely fails to account for how much faster and larger players have become in the past decade or so. Football has become more dangerous over time, not safer or more "sissified". The NFL isn't really "to blame" for this, but on the other hand they probably haven't been as proactive as they should be in implementing new safety standards for equipment, new rules to protect against the most damaging kinds of injuries, etc. The fact is that a typical "major hit" in 2013 is a hell of a lot more dangerous and health-threatening than a typical "major hit" was in the 1980s or 1990s.

Yes, i know that people used to wear leather helmets and that injuries have always been a part of the game, but somewhere along the line the NFL (and most other levels of football) grew a bit lax in keeping up with standards of safety, so it is well past time that they address those shortcomings. The fact that we also now have medical research that details the permanent dangers of concussions and other football injuries means that not doing so is completely irresponsible.

On a personal note...my wife doesn't want my son to play football when he is older because she is concerned about the potential effects on his future mental health. There was a time that I could have reasonably disagreed with her or argued about the lack of proof or the quality of existing safety measures, but that ship has sailed in the past few years as more and more information has become known about the kind of health risks inherent in the modern game. We'll still let participation in any sports activity be his choice, but if she wants to lay out her reservations for him when he's old enough to play, I certainly don't feel I have any grounds to stop her from doing so. Certainly macho posturing about toughness or "the way things used to be" would be about the most neanderthalish move I could make.

My paternal grandmother personally pulled my Father out of high school football. At the time he was 6'5, 250lbs. and she thought he would get hurt.

Then he went to Nam, 1st Cav.

I agree with Dish, but also disagree.

I don't think "hits" are any harder, and I don't think NFL players give more of a care than older players as long as they are making millions of dollars to play ball. I'd bet that most players would still play if there was a "NO HELMET" rule. For shits sake, one of the "smartest" players on the field texted pictures of his penis. They are "Fuck you, Pay me" people, down to Peyton Manning.

Just like "Johny Football" they only care about the money and thinking anything else is folly.

It is physics. You have guys that weigh as much as the linemen in the 70s and 80s that run 4.4 40s.

Actually helmets are said by some to help cause concussions as players use it as a weapon.

If I have a son he will be allowed to play football if he wants. There are many valuable things to learn and experience by playing. Injury is a risk but I think it is worth the risk.

They care about more than just money, but they also are doing this as a living. It is their profession. You can see the passion and competitiveness from Peyton and Manziel.
