How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
Re: How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
The final stages of Earthworm Jim can get pretty brutal. I wouldn't put it on a hardest games list, but it is no walk in the park.

Platformers are a crapshoot when it comes to what's considered difficult to you personally. I've beaten Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts but I absolutely suck at the Donkey Kong Country games.

I mostly rock at platformers. Mario, Sonic, Donkey Kong Country, Duck Tales, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Pac-Man World, even Mega Man games, Bionic Comando, and Bucky 'O Hare once a long time ago; I've beaten them all. But Earthworm Jim, never.s1rweeze wrote:Platformers are a crapshoot when it comes to what's considered difficult to you personally. This is probably very true. Maybe it's like sports. Each one needs different skills. I suck at run and gun platformers for example cause I suck at keeping up with all the bullets.s1rweeze wrote:Platformers are a crapshoot when it comes to what's considered difficult to you personally. I find all Sonic games to be super easy mode, but then to be honest Sonic games are kind of easy.
And as for Earthworm Jim, I too have failed to beat it but mostly cause I bought it as an adult and I don't have the free time to sit and play for 3 hours straight, enough times to be able to memorize the game.
Also DAMN that bungie jumping boss.

That's so weird, since both of them require some pretty slick jump timing in order to beat successfully! In comparison, DKC (any of the three) are a walk in the part compared to that awful jump in SGaG.s1rweeze wrote:Platformers are a crapshoot when it comes to what's considered difficult to you personally. I find most Mario and Donkey Kong Country stuff easy.
Sonic is medium difficulty with some annoying design elements.
Mega Man and Contra are hard.
Ninja Gaiden and Ghosts n Goblins = IMPOSSIBLE.

Good analogy. Even games within the same series can have different skill requirements. If you're badass at Super Mario World, there's no guarantee you'd be good at Yoshi's Island.ZeroAX wrote:This is probably very true. Maybe it's like sports. SGaG isn't a normal platformer in that it's more of an endurance test. There's unlimited continues so there's really no excuse not to be able to keep at it and grind away til you get to the next check point.irixith wrote:That's so weird, since both of them require some pretty slick jump timing in order to beat successfully! DKC for whatever reason just doesn't match up with my hand-eye coordination or something, I don't even know. The timing and the jumping just throws my brain off. It has a different rhythm to it that I haven't been able to get used to.

It was a very specific rhythm actually. You have to keep going even when it feels like you are running into your death. If you stop and try to calculate you end up dieing most of the time.s1rweeze wrote: DKC for whatever reason just doesn't match up with my hand-eye coordination or something, I don't even know. SGNG was no problem for me. The double jump made lot of avoiding stuff easier, but those long gaps were tougher. I'm playing through the GBA remake and it's exactly the same. DKC has its moments, but still no problem.s1rweeze wrote:Platformers are a crapshoot when it comes to what's considered difficult to you personally.
