Green gaming?

Post by Pulsar_t »

It's kind of amusing that while "green" is becoming more mainstream, out of increasing necessity rather than trendiness, gaming is taking a step backwards with the newer consoles sucking levels of power easily comparable to PCs. How do you feel about this issue?

Well, that's because newer consoles are approaching the levels of PCs, from a hardware perspective. That amount of computational ability doesn't come cheap.

I wonder if Sony and MS will adopt newer models considering the Wii's dazzling success? Somehow I can't imagine the 8th gen of consoles being 500Watt powerhouses.. They would pack a punch but certain cost-related considerations would/could be made. Of course it all comes down to the endgame..

I have been testing the wii's CPU and GPU over the last few months and i can tell you its far from green because the CPU contently fluctuate from 1-7W FSB and 40W Core(this means the cpu could be as high as 2.5Ghz but i dono yet). This also means IBM's cpu is very tuf so if your one of those who like to power there wii down completely before going to bed you don't have to because i would guesstemate that it could run at 85 degrees C without any probs :!:
Saturn, SNES, NGC, Wii, DSi, GBA, GBA Micro, PSX, PS2 and every emulator ever made :P
