Generations is definitely the better game, but Colors kind of gave birth to it. It was a refinement of the things that Colors brought to the table.

I found it to be vibrant, exciting, and addicting. And most importantly, its just plain fun.

Also, as Blu mentioned, the music is excellent. Aquarium Park Act 1 and Planet Wisp Act 1 are particular standouts.

Aquarium Park

Planet Wisp

The ds version of Colors plays a lot like the Rush games with the addition of the wisp powers. If you like the Rush games, you'll like Colors DS. The Wii version though, is superior and definitely the version to play.

I'm in the same boat as Menegrothx that Generations is slightly better, but I think that's in terms of fanservice to the series' history. You can definitely see the influence Colors had on Generations. But I think there's one thing that Colors did better, and I'll preface that this is a matter of my taste.

In Generations, you had present and past Sonic, so 2D and 3D levels. In Colors, the stages seamlessly hop from 2D to 3D. One minute you're operating on 2 Axes, the next it's 3. I thought it was a great variation and one that was also forgiving. I think I appreciated Colors more because I saw that like CFFJR said, Colors paved the way and breathed some life into a fairly stagnating series.

I didn't think the game really got stale. Each of the zones has 6-7 stages, which includes a boss at the end. As long as you don't get caught up in trying to get S ranks or get all the red rings on a stage, you breeze through the game. Once I stopped focusing on getting that 1 CC on a level, I enjoyed myself more. My total playtime was like 6 hours too.

Oh, and I used the Gamecube controller, because it supported it and I'm still not a huge fan of the nunchuk + wiimote combo.

I played the first stage in Sonic Colors and was a little underwhelmed. I pirated it and got a chit rom so it fizzled out after that. Am planning on trying to play the rest of it though.

I do really like Sonic Colors, but I feel like Sonic Unleashed is being a bit unjustly left out of the progression to Generations. Sure, the overall experience in Unleashed was watered down by uninspired, and excruciatingly long werehog beat-em-up sections, but the daytime stages were really the beginning of Sonic finding his current stride in 3D. Generations' modern stages borrow a bit more from Unleashed daytime stages, than Colors stages, I feel. If there were a patch for Unleashed, to make it possible to go through only the daytime stages to begin with, I'd say it's potentially more worth playing than Sonic Colors. Sonic Colors is worth owning for Planet Wisp stages alone, though. (And dat music.)

He means not all NES games are quick to beat. Try beating the Dragon Warrior games or Battle of Olympus in under an hour.

Actually, there are some disturbingly fast speed runs of both of those games in less than half an hour.

99% of speed runs are full of cheats and emulation tricks.

Sure, but it's still possible to beat those games in a ridiculously short amount of time. Let's face it: NES games as a whole just aren't that long.

I don't believe it, unless they're using a Game Genie. Maybe Battle of Olympus, but Dragon Warrior games take far too much grinding to be able to beat in an hour.
