Maybe it's my inexperience at this sort of thing, but am I the only one around here who's had nothing but trouble burning discs for my Dreamcast? This more than anything else (aside from a buttload of cash) is stopping me from maximizing my DC appreciation.KDub wrote:Yeah just burn a boot disc. You can probably grab one at Iso Zone.
While you're at it burn a boot disc for PS1 games too![]()
The simplest though is that eBay link.

Re: Playing foreign games on your dreamcast?
I have heard numerous times that DiscJuggler is the way to go for the easiest time with burning DC games. However, since CD-Rs damage the DC laser over time, I just ended up buying a Japanese Dreamcast. They're still relatively cheap compared to many other consoles I would want to import.santanime wrote:Maybe it's my inexperience at this sort of thing, but am I the only one around here who's had nothing but trouble burning discs for my Dreamcast? This one works fine as well, it's what I use, santanime wrote:There are all these awesome games that the Dreamcast has to offer, but many of them (Shenmue 2, REZ, Cosmic Smash, etc.) can't be played on a North American DC. Is there anything simple I can do to get passed region coding?

Re: Playing foreign games on your dreamcast?
That Gameshark CDX sabotages my REZ game. For cosmic reasons, beyond my understanding, it prevents the 1st boss from loading.
Doesn't make sense, I know, but it happens every time I use that disc.
If I use my Cheat ' Codes disc, it plays fine, no freezing at the boss.
Anyways, I stand corrected about it being the cheapest option. But I agree with Kdub: it is the simplest solution (for me at least).

I lol'd at this.nightrnr wrote: For cosmic reasons, beyond my understanding, it prevents the 1st boss from loading.
I have both a burned utopia boot loaded disc and the cheat code disc previously mentioned with an ebay link. Both do the job just fine on everything I've played so far (not including Rez though bc I haven't played it on the dc). I use the utopia disc almost exclusively though just to preserve the cheat code disc from scratches and since I've run into no differences using either.

I used to use Codebreaker or Gameshark Lite but now I have 2 DC's with the region-free bios. No more swapping discs; you just put them in and play.
Re: Playing foreign games on your dreamcast?
I can't comment about that. Got some unknown modchip, never checked what.

Re: Playing foreign games on your dreamcast?
Two weeks ago I found a japanese Dreamcast at my local thrift store. I knew it was different because it doesn't have the network adapter, then I found the NTSC-J label. House of the Dead 2 import was in the disc tray. I would have picked it up and traded it to someone if I knew there was any interest. It was like $20.00.

When burning discs for older systems, the slower the better. 10X or less is best, but some newere drives won't go that slow. I specifically use an old laptop as it will do 4X.
