The combat system in dragoon was enjoyable for me, it was difficult at first but after you mastered it kept you on edge trying to get the combos right otherwise I normally tend to get bored of going into three thousand random battles with the same routine.gennss wrote:Major disagreements here. I liked the Dragoon transformations too, very cool game and the story wasn't too bad at all.

But try putting it down for a couple months and trying to pick up where you left off! The only move I ever had problem with in Legend of Dragoon was Gust Of The Wind Dance. Everything else was pretty simple.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. That game is so much damn fun.

I can't bring myself to enjoy the fifth installment of the seriesAnubis wrote:I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. That game is so much damn fun.
Considering how phenomenal the others were (especially 3 and 4), Dragon Quarter made me very sad

Two games that come to mind are
Earthbound
and suprisingly Enchanted Arms for 360, although it might not have been the best rpg ever, by a long shot, I had never played a game with that type of battle system.
Koudelka was similar to Enchanted Arms, but poorly executed.

Legend of Legaia
Was definitely different.

Enchanted Arms had my favorite battle system of any RPG with the exception of the Shin Megami Tensei series. The grid system was thoroughly enjoyable, mostly unique, and it required different tactics since you had to position your characters just right ot be most effective.Snickerd00dle wrote:and suprisingly Enchanted Arms for 360, although it might not have been the best rpg ever, by a long shot, I had never played a game with that type of battle system.
Kind of like introducing a SRPG battle system into a traditional jRPG. Really good. The game itself was mediocre Square-Enix-style flamboyancy, but the battle system was more fun than any Square game. I'm considering buying the PS3 version just to play through the battle system again.
