Is it possible to swap speakers from one GBA Sp to another?

Anything that is gaming related that doesn't fit well anywhere else

Is it possible to swap speakers from one GBA Sp to another?

Post by brainerdrainer »

So I got a new GBA SP the brighter version, but the speakers are kind of half assed and only work from time to time. I have another GBA SP with working speakers, but some buttons don't work. is is possible to transfer the speakers/sound from the GBA SP to the brighter version one? Any help would be much appreciated.

Yeah! It is super easy too, unlike older Game Boy systems you don't even need to solder anything. The speaker just has two contacts that rest there and make contact by pressure. You'll just open up the bottom half of the SP and switch them out.

A bit of a warning though, if it is the caps causing the speaker to go out this obviously won't solve the problem.

Thank you! I will try switching them out to see if that fixed the problem

Alright well I guess that's not the problem. I changed the speakers but the sound still isn't working

If the speakers are wonky and the buttons are too, I bet the system got wet or was somewhere really humid and the contacts need cleaning. If one speaker is making crappy contact because there's light corrosion on the board, then swapping another speaker in won't make a difference without cleaning.
