Except for the Gamecube and (possibly?) GBA, my list is pretty retro-rich. In addition to being as active in Together Retro as I can be, I'm always playing some sort of arcade game, whether it be on MAME or one of the many compilations I have. I won't list any games I've beaten that aren't new. Shmups are a near daily occurrence for me as well, but unless I can do them on a credit you won't be seeing them here. I play retro, but perhaps don't BEAT retro as much as I should

Asura's Wrath (PS3)

I liked the combat and the genre diversity of the episodes, and after I got used to the QTE they didn't piss me off so much. I was worried about that initially, but I found them subtle enough to not be too distracting. The plot left a bit to be desired, but I wasn't expecting anything deep and enjoyed it for what it was.

I still need to get the "Hidden Episode" and probably download Part IV, but for now, tis beat.

This.

I play retro games all the time, but due to time constraints I can't always find time to sit down and play some of the longer ones that lack save states. For instance, I like playing platformers on the NES, but with only an hour or so a night (if that) to play I usually don't get very far.

I've played nothing but retro games for months. I kinda feel bad for neglecting my Wii and 360, I still haven't dug into them much.

This is basically what happens to me too.

I generally only have time to play games while my daughter naps during the day (I have classes at night). She can sleep for 2 hours on a good day..... but on an off day it's like 30 minutes. I won't play anything now unless it has save states or is on a handheld I can put to sleep.

Props to Sega for putting save states in their retro compilations.

What a great idea. Bravo Sega! Which games have that? That Ultimate Genesis Collection?

Yup.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and Sega Genesis Collection both have save states. It's amazing.

Still, I think Luke's right. It seems like this site used to be more exclusively focused on retro gaming than it is now. I'm not complaining, but that's how it looks to me.

Heck, the same is true of me. I used to play probably 75% retro, 25% modern. Retro games were extremely cheap compared to modern games at the time, which was 2010 and back. Nowdays the cheapest games are modern ones, after about 2-4 years when they get put on super-deep discounts during Steam sales or are put in Humble Bundles. I still primarily play whatever's cheap, but the age of the games that are cheapest has changed.

This is an excellent observation. I agree completely.

Don't think I haven't noticed. I enjoy keeping up with your "beat" list.

But that is the exact reason I love older games; they take around 45 to beat. Rpg's aside, I'm thinking of my collection and can't think about many games that take more than a half hour to beat.
