Yea. I didn't finish FFVII til my 2nd or 3rd time playing. Pretty decent game but never was a favorite.

As far as my own RPG progress, thinking of starting Atelier Meruru Plus today. Stalled on Xillia. Probably shouldn't buy any more PS3 RPGs. And P3P is great, but I'd been busy with The Walking Dead game and sort of feel like something lighter

Tifa was trying to get all 50 Shades of Grey but Cloud BRA had to come along and mess it up so she had to pretend that this was just some undercover operation she was working on.

I think I forgot just how suggestive this part was. Or even how overt it was. I mean, "I'll cut it off..." is pretty blunt.

Cruising along. Having fun. Feels slightly weird. Like, did you ever have a classic book or movie that maybe you attempted to read/watch twice in the past only to eventually bail? So it feels like you KNOW the story... except you never read/saw the end?
That's my experience every time I try to pick up FF7 again. That Tifa scene is also burnt into my brain after watching a friend play it when I was a kid. "lol. No way they put that in a game" ...boy was I naive.

oh I forgot to mention something - I'm really not a fan of ATB. Even if we're talking seconds, I hate sitting there waiting for that little status bar to build up.

Also, the PC version looks nice. Same game, they just smoothed out the ugly polygons a bit.

You playing on PC? That looks great. Can you change the battle speed to fast or something? I thought you could with at least SOME games w/ battle systems like that.

ATB is okay...... I guess it was Square's attempt to insert a little "real time" action into their RPGs.

One thing I always loved about Chrono Trigger is how at the end of the game your speed stats are so high the ATB gauge fills almost instantaneously.

That PC screenshot looks much better than the PS one but the game still looks like shit overall.

yeah I got it on Steam... it really does look so much better just by smoothing out the polygons. I mean, really it's nothing you probably couldn't do on a PS1 emulator, but...

(Still got those silly Popeye arms though)

As far as speeding up battles, not sure. Haven't really looked into any tweaks. I think I read there is a way to skip summons animations. But ultimately it's just the ATB system in general I don't like. I don't really like the staggered turns thing. I like just knowing "ok, we take turns. First this guy, then this guy, then this guy, then the enemies, then start over" a lot more. I just like the optional slowness of traditional Turn Based battles I guess. ATB makes me feel rushed... but also makes me feel like I'm sitting there waiting instead of doing something. It's kind of dumb.

I feel you there. Honestly, after playing a bunch of SMT and SMT spin-offs, it's hard for me to go back to the PS1 FF games I THOUGHT I loved. I really like the style of SMT, Persona, Devil Survivor, etc. a lot more. Could just be a passing phase. But Atlus RPGs have just been more satisfying on the whole.

SMT IV had one of the most addictive battle systems, yeah.

I have trouble enjoying simpler RPGs too, but had a lot of fun back when I played FFIV on PSX. I just turned the battle speed up to 1, you had to take a turn about once every second. It definitely became more interesting.
