I think everyone should just take into account what everyone else has expressed when making their picks and we should be ok.

I was hoping for more of a mandate with the poll questions - the middle ground has no support and both extremes are dead even.

I think we'll have to threaten to cut the STGT in half to reveal its real mother.

But in all seriousness, 20065-2010 has a few good options in Castle Shikigami III, Karous, Radirgy and Chaos Field. Castle Shikigami 3 is under $10 on the wii, and the latter three are in the Ultimate Shooting Collection on the Wii for only $2.

And for those who don't have a Wii, Chaos Field is usually around $5 on the Gamecube, Radirgy has several different systems it can be played on (albeit, imports and nowhere near as cheap) and Karous is also available as an import on DC. I'm not sure if they're easily emulated or not yet though.

Akai Katana, Deathsmiles and Otomedius Excellent are all also relatively inexpensive ($10, $10, $7) and easy to find, but they kind of eliminate anyone without a 360.

Chaos Field rules.

I'd be happy with any of these. Deathsmiles is one of my fav shmups this gen. Akai Katana is really fun but I haven't wrapped my brain around it yet. Otomedius is the worst of the three, but having a reason to play it more wouldn't be so bad.

So if we do have a 2006-2010 category, is it ok if I choose Crimzon Clover?

Otherwise, I may be forced to pick a Touhou game...

I wouldn't be against Touhou or another free doujin (eXceed, etc) as long as the system req's were low enough to ensure that any one of us participating is going to have no issues running it.

Actually, come to think of it, I'm not sure Crimzon Clover would be eligible, since it was only the trial version that was released in 2010 and the full version didn't come out until 2011. I suppose Hellsinker could be a contender...

How about the Raiden Fighters series? Are there any emulation problems with those?

Also, I read that the MAME version doesn't have sound, but would anyone be opposed to me picking Dogyuun as my 1st era choice?

Raiden Fighters games run fine (better than the recent Raiden Legacy PC release, in fact).

Dogyuun runs with sound in recent MAME builds, so there should be no problem with that either.

Raiden Fighters works well in MAME -- only issue is getting past that first-time initial bootup in Seibu's games (the 999 countdown), even hitting the fast forward button you'll still have to wait 5 minutes but it only happens once.

We played V-V, a Toaplan game from the same time period, at last year's STGT with no issue -- sound was only recently introduced to that game in the newest MAME build at the time.

Ok, here's my revised picks:

'90-'95 - Dogyuun
'96-'00 - Raiden Fighters
'01-'05 - Dimahoo
'06-'10 - Shikigami lll

Hopefully this set works better.
