Violent By Design wrote:I like Dota a bit more than League of Legends. But really, HoN over LoL? Hon is absolutely terrible. League of Legends at least gives a different experience than Dota. HoN is just a much shittier version of Dota. Even Smite is a better game.
HoN has more depth. What's the most important thing in a competitive game? Having as much depth and as high skill cap as possible.

Not to somebody who doesn't have the time and/or skill required to reach that cap. Then it becomes a detriment.

League of Legends is a pretty fun game. If you can get 4 of your friends to play with you, and you're not paired with random people who likely quit, it's a grand old time. It builds off the formula of Defense of the Ancients, which I spent a lot of time playing back in Warcraft III. It's certainly variable and there's still enough skill involved to where you can counter different team compositions. I don't see why the hate is being dished out, if you don't like it fine, but there's no reason to spill tears over a GameFAQ's popularity contest.

It kept me entertained longer than all Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby and Final Fantasy games put together.

More game time is not the same as more fun.

I never had so much fun with Mario, Final Fantasy or any of those other games that I lost all sense of time and place and forgot to eat and sleep, like I did with WoW.

When I was a kid I would definitely play RPGs, Sonic, etc. for 8-12 hours a day and forget to eat, sleep, etc. Didn't even need to use the bathroom.

But I found that that sort of delirium happens more with online games. Diablo 1 and 2. FreeSpace 2. MechWarrior. Etc. Games I used to play online on PC all day back before I had many responsibilities and work every day.

I don't play online as much as I used to and definitely prefer local multiplayer when possible. Nothing quite like playing w/ friends in the same room. Which is what I am planning to do w/ Diablo 3 on PS3. And what me and some friends have done w/ Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate this year. There are certainly times when we've played for 6, 8, 10 hours straight without thinking about food or much of anything else.
My B/S/T thread! :)
