Catherine is loosely connected. It's made by the team that made Persona. In Vincent's apartment in the background you can clearly read that he has books that say "Persona" on the spine. I'm just saying if you liked SMTIV that much it might be a system seller, but yeah PS2.noiseredux wrote:Catherine is loosely connected. It's made by the team that made Persona. Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

After eight grueling levels I finished my quest,
Turned off my Master System and laid to rest.
Zillion II screams SMS. The graphics, gameplay, music "feel" Sega. The game isn't that difficult, but in my past attempts I would get frustrated a shut the system down. I'm glad I played through this time, as the ending isn't half bad,

Excellent. The graphics are superb. The story sequences are a fantastic love letter to fans of the original TV show...and for all the idiot reviewers complaining about them THEY ARE SKIPPABLE YOU MORONS! God, the stupid things reviewers bitch about boggles the mind. The story sequences and dialog are arguably the best thing about this remaster. You're basically playing through an episode of the show
The controls are tight, though using the pogo feels slightly off sometimes. The music is solid, specially that Transylvania theme. I love all the hidden items and secret passages with Mega Man X style heart tanks. I don't remember the NES version much, but this stands on its own as a solid, old school style platformer. There are some very cool gameplay moments that I'm pretty sure Wayforward added in too, though it's hard to say having so little memory of the original. The game just feels a little more fleshed out than I remember it being. I've read that the entire intro level was created by Wayforward and I think some other parts of the game were added or tinkered with in some way. The last boss seemed more fleshed out than I remember
As remasters go, this is probably as good as it gets. I dig the retail package too, even though it has no disc. It's still something physical Capcom is graciously giving us for a 15 dollar PSN title.

Also it was nice to sneak a game in before the start of college football season this weekend. Not going to have a lot of free time on Saturdays for awhile.

Batman: Arkham City (Xbox360)
This is my second play through of the game, but the first time around I didn't give it a fair crack as I had come off a Mass Effect bender and Batman flat after all the melodrama.
I also received a ribbing for not having done all the sidequests and what-not on my first attempt from a friend so, to avoid further ribbage, I started a new game+ save and 100% completed it. I even did the one AR challenge he can't do! Smug.
I still prefer Asylum as I think it's a tighter experience with better pacing and narrative, but by crikey this game is good. The combat is still tight, the gadgets work how you'd expect them to and the world looks like the comics come to life.
The only problems I have is, like Asylum, when the developers resort to just chucking loads of enemies at you at once in a tight room as a means of bumping the difficulty. Not that this is a particularly difficult game, but it can feel cheap. Also the plot has some issues as it can't quite consolidate its main concept with the Joker story line, so towards the end one is dropped, almost literally, for the other.
Otherwise though a brilliant and imaginative game that makes you really feel like a superhero.
Enduro Racer (SMS)
The thing with enduro racer is that, really it's not that great a game. It's quite simple, it's not very challenging and though it has ten stages the last five are slightly bumpier versions of the first five (though not in the japanese release).
But I still really enjoy it despite all this. It can be beaten in under ten minutes and is just a lovely slice of old fashioned fun. Hitting jumps just right feels very satisfying and it's one of few games where I replay to beat my scores.

Yup, this was amazing compared to the first R&C. Held up a lot better in every regard, control wise especially, etc. I found myself liked the games personality a bit more too... for some reason the characters, voices, settings, etc, all kind of made me think of stuff like All Dogs Go to Heaven. Weirder animated classics like that stuff, had a bit of a dark undertone to it.
Simple and too the point, wasn't too crazy with the collecting which is fine with me. The minor stealth elements and other stuff were refreshing and enough to make it stand out on its own. Definitely excited to hit up the others.

Re: Games Beaten 2013
I was in the mood for some Game Boy games tonight..... So I popped the Super Game Boy into the SNES and went to town. After quitting both Contra 3 (too hard) and Lemmings (too slow/tedious) I went with Mega Man II. I literally haven't played this in about 17 years. Rolled through the game - only dying two or three times (every time by falling into a damn hole!). I had no idea what the "correct" stage order was, but I seemed to guess well. Beat Dr. Wily with the Mega Buster. Great game.
