This was one of the issues I had with the sequels of the Matrix movies was the two color scheme. Everything was black and green in the matrix and everything else was black and grey. Sometimes you need that variation.Luke wrote:I understand why they are going with the color scheme, but two hours of a monochromatic theme worries me. Again, I understand why directors focus on one or two colors to set tone (for example PAYBACK was all black and blue, GATSBY had Gold in almost every shot) but it takes away from the movie after a while.

Holy mother of god did I loathe Scott Pilgrim.
Mopey nerdy "nice guy" deserves to win over attractive woman on account of being a mopey nerdy "nice guy". Worst trope ever.
Plus, all the "geek culture" references that were shoehorned into the film were awkward and annoying as hell. Oh my god he plays bass (of course) for a band called Sex Bob-omb! Cue canned laughter.
Eff that movie.

Yeah, screw those grayscale movies! What's up with that?Luke wrote:I understand why they are going with the color scheme, but two hours of a monochromatic theme worries me. Plus I'm not a huge fan of a brown and black theme.

I was kidding. I do own it, but I know that many people aren't up for it.pierrot wrote: Please, no—. If you want to empty a room, showing the torture scene is probably a good way to do it, though.
At least in my case it is not as much being desensitized as it is knowing that I'm 'just watching a movie'. I don't usually get caught in strong dramatic moments either.I don't think it's a badge of honer to be desensitized to horror.

I wouldn't call it terrible, but no, I'm not really a fan of Audition. I usually like Takashi Miike movies, but I've given this one a few watches and it's never really clicked with me. I would put several of his movies above it (Gozu, Ichi, Visitor Q, Osaka Tough Guys, Bird People In China, to name a few).pierrot wrote:Would you call it a good movie, though?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Yeah, I knew you weren't really serious. I don't really get that caught up in dramatic moments either; I just have a serious aversion to (what I feel are) gratuitous scenes/movies focusing on torture/dismemberment/mass murder. Especially where the director seems to take pleasure in displaying the gruesome details, and even more so where needles and/or scalpels are involved.Hobie-wan wrote:I don't usually get caught in strong dramatic moments either.
I'll be honest: Audition was my introduction to Miike, and it was pretty souring. I have seen a few scenes from Ichi the Killer, though, and it seemed like a much less reprehensible film, to me.brunoafh wrote:(Gozu, Ichi, Visitor Q, Osaka Tough Guys, Bird People In China, to name a few).

The video game was shitty too, unsurprisingly.
EDIT: wow, I just read through like 3 pages of debate I had in this thread about Scott Pilgrim, mostly with Gamerforlife. If you want to know why I disliked it, I spell out many, many, many reasons on those pages.

Regarding Eternal Sunshine.. I felt it was a great movie but a tad overrated as well.. Movies like American Beauty and The Pianist were superior, and I didn't even like American Beauty as much as most did.. Also Memento was better at its method over Sunshine..

I feel obligated to put this out there. It's generally seen as one of Miike's most graphic films and is full of disgusting scenes, and the movie is centered around a sadomasochistic assassin that masturbates after brutally slaughtering people. I think it's banned in several countries as wellpierrot wrote:I have seen a few scenes from Ichi the Killer, though, and it seemed like a much less reprehensible film, to me.
It's all campy B-movie gross out violence though, as opposed to Audition's graphic scenes being meant to cause the viewer discomfort and unease.

Hm. What would go better with chicken wings: Bill and Ted or The Lost Boys?
The clear winner is Kentucky Fried Movie, but I just watched that and Chicken Run would make me feel guilty.
I fell asleep to Scarface last night. I'd feel shame if it wasn't so long.
