Re: Together Retro: Zork
Haven't played Zork since 06/07, so it's time for another run-through. I've loved this game since I was a kid and was a big help in teaching me reading comprehension. I adore old text based adventure games.

Don't have the patience for it anymore, much respect to anyone that does.
Re: Together Retro: Zork
I have a nice little Infocom collection for Apple II. Zork I is the only one I've actually beaten and I think I still had to look up solutions to a couple of the puzzles. I've also beaten Return to Zork for DOS, which I found to be a pretty weird game; I have no idea what the other 90s-era graphical Zork games are like, Zork Nemesis and Zork Grand Inquisitor.
I'll play through it again using a walkthrough, then try my hand at Zork II, Beyond Zork, and "maybe-kind-of-a-spinoff" Wishbringer! I expect to use a walkthrough for those too, but experimenting on my own first is where a lot of the fun comes from!

I picked up the Zork Anthology thru GOG ($6 for a lot of Zork). I've got no prior experience with this one. Should be interesting.

This is definitely a game you want to make a map for; many times if you go NW from room A to room B you need to go E to get back to room A, not SE.

Return to Zork is definitely an odd duck, an odd duck that I enjoyed. With Zork Nemesis, you have a very grim, gritty, disturbing game with almost zero humor. It goes against the traditional Zork ideas, but does so wonderfully. It is a good story and an interesting puzzle game. It is worth playing. With Grand Inquisitor, you go back to the humor. Lots of jokes, very funny and engaging, great voice acting and actors. It was a lot of fun.Nemoide wrote:I have a nice little Infocom collection for Apple II. I have already beaten Zork before, but it is time to bust out the old notebook and see if I can do it again. And yes, if you don't have a map already for it, make one. It will be very difficult to get around without one.

Yup. Also got it from there. Came with a LOT of stuff too. I remember reading about this in the 80s, and played it for all of 5 minutes then. I hope this thread will have some activity.noiseredux wrote:I picked up the Zork Anthology thru GOG ($6 for a lot of Zork). I've got no prior experience with this one. Should be interesting.

Yup. I think I'll be using pen and paper this time around. Last time I used a print-out I found online.MrPopo wrote:This is definitely a game you want to make a map for; many times if you go NW from room A to room B you need to go E to get back to room A, not SE.
