Dodonpachi Saidaioujou Ltd Ed

Post by Spyke »

Hi all.

First off, I apologise if I've posted this in the wrong forum. I wasn't sure whether to put it in reviews (as it isn't an in-depth "game" review as such) or Shmups or general. If a moderator fells it's in the wrong place I hope they will be kind enough to move it to the most appropriate section. :)

My Limited Edition Dodonpachi Saidaioujou package arrived today and I thought I'd share some impressions and pictures of it. I started a thread recently on Limited Edition Variants http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 44&t=44030 as I don't often buy them deliberately, but I quite fancied this one for several reasons.

Pics are quite big so I've just put links to them.

The slipcase contains a foldout cardboard case with the soundtrack CD to the front right and the metal game case held in the left hand portion, visible through the cutout in the card.

The right hand portion also holds the B6 size hardback artbook in a section behind the soundtrack CD.

Everything in the package is really nice quality. The artwork on the metal case is bright and colourful and there's an inset black on white name plate on the edge of the case. Manual is good quality paper and lots of full colour pictures of course.

The artbook... well, it's got lots of pictures of the main characters, ships, bosses etc, but predominantly the female characters in their uniquely inappropriate attire! ;) The quality is excellent and it's a really nicely produced book. Everything in the package is in Japanese of course, and I do wish there was a translation for the interview and story text contained in the rear sections of the book.

Not being a collector of limited editions, I don't know how it stacks up with others out there, but it sure makes me feel more like looking for others in the line. It cost me $85 US which I thought was reasonable. Shame about the extra £20 on customs duties and handling fees once it hit the UK! :(

The game is a little bit different to the other Dodonpachi releases but I'm sure that's been covered in more professional reviews. I just wanted to show that I really like this package and am glad I bought the game in its limited edition format.

Ant :)

Nice write up. I sold a few of these and this is the best limited edition game (as far as presentation) Cave has put out. It's their 360 swan song.

Hashirya1, the fact that it was the last game Cave were (allegedly) producing for console release did have something to do with me wanting a special edition to commemorate it. When I got into shmups recently I wasn't much of a Cave fan but now my collection has a lot of their games and I do enjoy and appreciate them (even if I'm never going to "master" them)!

Congrats on the purchase, fgazi. I'm sure you'll love it when it arrives!

Does anyone know exactly how many were produced of the different limited versions?
