The only comics I'm still interested in reading are the Alien series...though I would like to branch out into AvP as well eventually. Gaming takes up too much of my time as it is though, so not sure if that will ever happen

Deadpool's first appearance fetches $16,000

http://www.digitalspy.com/comics/news/a ... 16000.html

A friend and I were talking about how worthless our 90's comics were...until we checked price guides. My books are something I want to hand down, but at the same time comics are something hot right now.

Deadpool is one of the rare exceptions to the 90s rule. For the most part, 90s comics still are $1 bin comics. You still aren't gonna make a fortune off of The Death of Superman, Spawn, or your Jim Lee issues of X-Men. The problem is that comics were just insanely popular during that period and had massively large print runs. So unless some mass comic burning happens, it will be a very long time before most 90s books become rare.

And $16,000 for the first appearance of Deadpool is outrageous! While that comic may be an exception to the 90s rule, that's still way too much for that book. Someone got suckered. That book is worth a little over a $100, give or take depending on condition.

Not a fortune, but SPAWN #1 has only gone up in price.

Agreed.

Actually, it dropped, A LOT, some years back. They found a ton of unsold issues left sitting in a warehouse somewhere. It's like a $5 book, tops. Even before that happened, it was only worth like $20; it's a pretty common book.

Amazing Spider-Man #300 (1st Venom) and Walking Dead #1 are a couple modern gems that are worth a bit.

I bet that New Mutants #98 is either a fluke or a mistake that the buyer will weasel out of. I'm seeing copies for sale on MyComicShop.com in 9.8 condition at $375 and 9.0 at $149.
That's still a lot for a comic from the 90s, but $16k is not a fair appraisal of what the comic is NORMALLY worth.

IMO, from a purely financial standpoint comics are a terrible investment.

But I have a complete collection of American Sonic the Hedgehog comics (including variants and promo issues) and I dream of those someday becoming valuable... not that I'd ever sell them. :P

The original 4-issue mini-series that was printed before the ongoing series, and the first issue of the ongoing series are worth a litle bit. And I'm sure having the whole set complete, also jumps the value of the collection, as a whole, up quite a bit.

Not according to the prices on ebay.

I have both #300 and TWD #1. Time to sell?

The same eBay that sold New Mutants #98 for $16,000?

Even though, I don't see what you're looking at, here's the first one I see, $1.85 plus $2.50 S&H:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Spawn-1-Image-Modern-Age-/310732808808?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item48591e6268#ht_490wt_933

The next 2 are $1.95, $3.00. I typed in "Spawn 1 1992".

But if you are buying comics on eBay, you usually are paying a little more, in general. Me and a whole lot of other comic collector's I know that buy online frequent 2 places: MyComicShop.com and ComicCollectorLive.com.

Did anyone check out DC's Forever Evil event this week? What did everyone think of the opening week of this event?

First of all, those 3-D covers look amazing. I know gimmick covers are like the bane of the comic collecting community, but I've always liked them. And these particular covers just look beautiful. And a pic, unfortunately, doesn't do them justice, you need to see them in person to see the eye-popping effect.

As for the issues themselves, well the origin issues are cool. It's nice to see definitive origins for these characters in the New 52 universe. And I like how most of them aren't evil just for the sake of being evil, they have some motivating factor to them.

But, the main title, Forever Evil #1, was a bit disappointing, IMO. The fight scenes between the Crime Syndicate and the Justice League were just PATHETIC. These should have been drag-down, knock fights that were full of fantastic super-hero action. I mean we're talking about the Justice League, comics' most powerful super-team, fighting their evil counterparts which are JUST AS powerful.

And then the villains just take-over the world, just like that? Just because the Justice League is down? What about the other 100 or so heroes inhabiting the DC Universe? Teen Titans? Outsiders? Justice League Dark and America? Task Force X? Hopefully this will be addressed as the series goes on.

Your thoughts?
