Post by ninjainspandex »

so both my official 8MB Sony cards are completely full I kind of want to upgrade to a larger capacity card. Any reliable ones out there?

It's probably wisest to get another Sony one.

did sony actually make one bigger than the 8MB one? I'm seeing a bunch on ebay but none actually say sony and they all seem to ship from China.

Nope, 8MB is the only official size. Luckily, even the official ones seem to be quite cheap nowadays.

You risk losing all your saves with a third party card. I wouldn't trust 'em.

If you search eBay for "original PS2 memory card" you'll find the good stuff. There's even a listing right now for a lot of eight memory cards with a BIN of $29.99. That should keep you covered for a while.

Another option, which I recently started doing myself, is backing up your saves to your PC to make space on the memory cards. This does require a memory card with Free McBoot, though.

If you want to take the PC out of the equation, you can use the PS2 Hard Drive with the Network Adapter.

It's pretty pricey, but I got a Memor32 years ago and it works great. It's a 32MB memory card that can connect to a computer through USB for backup or loading save games. You can also download saves from places like Gamefaqs, or hack the savegames if you're into that kind of stuff. My friend got one as well and his also works great still - I think he's still using it like a freemcboot thingy on his PS2 rather than hard-modding or using a freemcboot card.
They're available at realhotstuff.com

There's the Katana 32MB card (also made a 16MB one)
It's an officially licensed card with "MagicGate" right on there.

Although, it's more like four 8MB cards in one, as you have to cycle through 4 different pages for its full capacity.

Still, it ought to be a good option, I'd snag it while it's a good deal:

I stick with 1st party and only on 3rd party as nightrnr pointed out, if it has the words Magic Gate stamped on the card such as the Nyco brand. This is an indicator of authorized by Sony licensed release.

Definitely stick to 8mb, some games might wipe all the saves off a larger card.

There is also the Action Replay Max route. It can backup game saves to a regular USB memory stick for an easy transfer to the PC. This also allows the reverse such as downloading game completed levels saves from various online sites.
