I was hinted that blue text here means sarcasm but I have no idea how that could be sarcastic. My statement applies to both you and everyone else.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:That's pointless, since it's other people using the word that bothers me.
It's fine if you belittle the debate too. Just not a person.

Turning pages is an incidental action though. A short story printed on a poster would not require you to turn pages to read it. A film on actual celluloid that requires you to change reels isn't interactive compared to one on a DVD where you press play and view the whole thing without interruption. A game still requires input in order to modify its output and be played.o.pwuaioc wrote:If you're not turning pages, an active form of interaction, then you're not reading a book correctly. I regularly write in margins. Is that interaction enough?

So Zero Escape is kind of like "Cube: the Game" so far (in the first hour). I like it, hope it continues in this vein...

A book still requires looking at the pages in order for its meaning to be interpreted and be read.
As Valkyrie pointed out, the code of the game changes not at all. A saved game is no different than a bookmark. I can play one way, or I can skip a chapter if I wanted to. I can skip some words I don't know, or I can go straight to the end. How it's read depends on how I read.

I need to play this and 999. Saying it is like Cube is more endorsement as I love that movie.dsheinem wrote:So Zero Escape is kind of like "Cube: the Game" so far (in the first hour). I like it, hope it continues in this vein...

Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up. You write in the margins of your book? Please tell me this is not in books that others will be using. Do what you want with your personal collection, but please don't damage library books or text books you intend to trade in.o.pwuaioc wrote:A game still requires input in order to modify its output and be played.Hobie-wan wrote:Turning pages is an incidental action though. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
The books output does not change. Just because you didn't look at it makes no difference. That's like the cliched question as to whether a tree falling in the woods makes a sound if nobody is there to hear it. When you look at words, the only physical action that is absolutely common is that photons are either reflected off a physically printed thing into your eyeball or are emitted by a screen. The few photons that miss your eye and bounce off your forehead do not affect the book. Full stop.o.pwuaioc wrote: A book still requires looking at the pages in order for its meaning to be interpreted and be read.
If a person is on the other side of a one way mirror and you are watching them, you are simply reacting to what you see, you are not interacting with them. If you are standing in front of a war memorial reading off names of fallen soldiers, you are reacting, you are not interacting with the wall.
I don't understand why this is so hard to grasp. But I'm done as I feel like I'm trying to interact with brick walls. Astonishingly it isn't working.

You think I do what? Why, that would be simply barbaric...Ack wrote:Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up. You write in the margins of your book? Please tell me this is not in books that others will be using.
