Re: Food in Video Games
Nothing beats the burger assembly-line mini-game in Space Quest IV. Not only did it properly simulate monotonous fast food redundancy, it did so with charm! Wanted to know more about that mayonnaise you were squirtin' on that bun? Just talk to it and it would talk back, giving you helpful and informative information on how it helps complete the processed masterpiece known as a Monolith Burger.
Another that sticks out isn't a food you ate, but a food you fought. We are talking about the Eggplant Wizard from Kid Icarus. Ever since the Captain N cartoon show, I have been deathly frightened of that anthropomorphic vegetable. That beady eye, those thick pink lips......
....scary.

Melons in SMW. Everytime I see one of those IRL I think of that game.

Yes. It's just so satisfying, even if I can barely get into the second board on the actual arcade cabinet. Shhh.sevin0seven wrote:i've always enjoying making burgers in Burger Time.
For me, Toejam & Earl really stands out. Food's just lying about on the ground, and if it's tasty (hamburgers, fries, fudge sundaes) you restore some health, and if it's gross (fish bones, moldy cheese, old cabbage) you lose some. It's hard to identify a lot of them just by looking, and I remember having to risk a lot on trial-and-error and being very amused by the results and characters' reactions. The old fungus in particular got a lot of laughs.
Bubble Bobble is another. When I was a kid my babysitter and I (she introduced me to the game) would endlessly debate what the white vegetable was. She thought it was a white strawberry, and I thought it was peeled onion. When I grew older I thought it was a daikon radish -- but I just checked the internet and apparently it's a turnip! The wonder never ceases.
