Windows 7 Looks Nice
Re: Windows 7 Looks Nice
Windows has had good for far too long. Linux, on the other hand, still doesn't cater to the lowest common denominator ("shell elitism" as I prefer to call it). Which is a shame because it has surpassed Windoze in quite a few departments. I'll remain on XP thankyouverymuch, and PC gaming can go suck it as long as I'm forced to upgrade this tosh of code aka Windoze when my current platform could as simply support the latest DirectX platform, if it weren't for Microsoft's shady business tactics.

Vista is a good OS. I run it on my laptop which has the specs to deal with it. Don't try running it on a computer with any less than a gig of RAM or you'll be in trouble.
Re: Windows 7 Looks Nice
Wow, it really looks like OSX now! I'm not an Apple junky, but OSX is definitely easier to work on. That said, I think XP is good too, but not quite as good as X.

I'm too much of a PC gamer to ever consider another OS. And honestly, as mentioned, Linux has an elitism going for it. One of the guys at work summed it up best when I asked him why he ran a Mac at home instead of Linux: "I got sick of having to spend a week to get it set up just right."

I'm pretty sure it's the Mac people who are elitist. Linux people are just nerdy.MrPopo wrote:I'm too much of a PC gamer to ever consider another OS. its true...
Older. Not wiser.

And thats great. I just mean how Mac users love to tell me how Windows sucks and how stupid I am for not switching over to the mac side. Linux people have never been rude to me. Even when I am trying to use linux and being retarded, they generally help me.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Mozgus wrote:I'm pretty sure it's the Mac people who are elitist. Well, I guess with Linux, while they're willing to help, they aren't big on the user-friendliness of an interface. They'd much rather have raw power and flexibility, which does have it's place. But it can be off putting.
We have lots of fun at work, though, as I'm the big PC guy, while we do all our development on Linux, and most of my coworkers are big on Linux at home. So we get to trade barbs back and forth when I can't do something cool in Linux, or they have issues doing something that I think is simple in WIndows.

Re: Windows 7 Looks Nice
Well speak of the fuckin' devil!
Windows Vista just pulled the sly one on me. Bitch won't boot up, get's to log in screen then everything just...
ermmm....
stutters?
Really, the sound skips and stutters and my mouse moves all jerky, and it loads all weird. And it never fully loads up or anything and just freezes.
At least I dual boot Linux on the machine, I have something to tide me over until I figure out what the hell is going on. Hrmm, it most likely isn't a hardware issue if everything is running smoothly over here on Ubuntu on the same exact machine! My big problem is I can't stay over here on Linux, or I would. All the work I do requires Windows because half the software tools I use are Windows based. That and the stuff that I can do on Linux runs differently on Linux, or doesn't run at all on Linux (I cav write it, and compile it, just not run it... only emulate it)... there are weird bugs that occur here that don't on Windows and vice versa... hard to debug them out with out Windows. Grrrrrrr....

Re: Windows 7 Looks Nice
Well I made my migration over to linux, no more dual boot and a run Vista on a virtual machine... oh yey...

It doesn't run at the same speed for obvious reasons. As well as the fact I set up a single core system with half the RAM... I didn't feel like setting up a VM with complete use of my resources. But it works just fine, I'm actually posting this through my VistaVM install running in Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid. I'm actually pretty happy that I finally made this conversion... now just if I can pass my capture cards through VMware to Vista, probably not though.
