I decided to play a bit of Ketsui today. Nothing too great, but a start anyway. I don't love the scoring in this game. It punishes me hard for going for points. The pin-prick sized hit box leads to a lot of moments where I'm baffled by my survival, though.

Also an X-mode run:

Scores updated.
X-Mode table added.

Nice to see this scoreboard getting some attention thanks to the PS3 release.

I'll post mine once I have something worthy to post.

Would describing this game to newbies (Been posting a pic of my copy in many facebook groups today) as Dodonpachi meets Psyvariar be accurate?

Not really. There's a lot of bullets - that's about the end of similarities. DDP and Ketsui both CAVE of course, but I mean, graphically, musically, scoring-wise, dunno if i'd call it Psyvariar at all and while it follows the CAVE model of simple first stage and progressively more difficult (like most shmups) and the scoring is based on time-chaining, but aside that, it's its own game.

Anyone else playing? Gonna get back in after 3 weeks of Under Defeat...

I did a half dozen runs tonight. Only hit 7M. Hard as hell after the first level, but fun for sure.

4 runs, stage 2 boss twice, stage 3 boats twice...first stage is getting better and better, starting get 5's on bigger enemies, and no letting them get their shot off, playing super aggressive, but it creates frustrating deaths sometimes.

The Stage 3 extend in this game haunts me.

Stuck on arcade mode - each run 15-19 mil and just missing the extend...banging my head into a wall. Decided to mix it up and had a nice x-mode run to the 4th stage boss. I'm pretty sure there is more to the scoring on x-mode, but haven't figured it out yet...

The stage 4 mid-boss had some of the most brilliant bullet patterns i've seen. Absolutely stunning.

I just grabbed the collector's edition. This is quickly becoming my favorite shmup.

34,442,906 - mjmjr25 - Stage 4 - Tiger Shwert - PCB
^This run w/racketeers Ninja and Spoony looking on.

Man, I hope you start playing and posting. I love this game. So brutal, yet somehow manageable. I've probably got nearly 100 runs into this game now and my last dozen or so runs i've gotten the extend in almost all of them - after having only gotten it once in my first 80-ish runs.

Clearing stage 1 - 8mil
Clearing stage 2 - 17mil (usually die once on the leadup to the boss)
Clearing stage 3 midboss - 22mil, die once on midboss, die twice on end boss.
Final Scores - in the 25-26mil range, had one run to the stage 4 boss and 33+mil
