For real though, that's amazing.

I'll probably see ya'll for Homura, if not then Giga Wing for sure.
Is there a ROM that works for Homura? That'll be the only way I can get in on that one.

I don't know, I don't really emulate anything. If you own a PS2 I can help you out though.

Well, I never did either until the STGT at Shmups last year.

I have an original US PS2, but no converter of any sort.

I planned to sit out this month because this game infuriates me, but the least I can do is put in one run and post a score.

That's a pretty nice score for not liking the game. Just wondering: What irks you about it?

Since you ask
That one can play flawless for 4 stages, hardly bomb, then get hit by something on a left or right corner and if it's the wrong respawn point, your game is likely over, 4 straight deaths because you don't have the speed or power for that part of a stage. If runs took 5 minutes and that happens, then, I can live with it, but the stages are long - the boss-fights stage 3 and beyond are too long....not difficult, just long. Starting over and going through the same motions for 4 stages just bores me.

I don't use lighting, I use missiles, and if you fight the octopus with missiles, it's literally a 4-6 minute battle that is just slow and boring.

The controls are not smooth. There are inch wide gaps that you try to maneuver between and a slight nudge on the stick shoots you an inch and a quarter, just inconsistent and clunky for tight bullet patterns.

Grabbing items is inconsistent, if i'm using missile and want to avoid a blue eye powerup, but there is a red P powerup about 1/4" away, slightly nudging to the P often picks up the other powerup - just not very refined.

There isn't much to scoring - beyond saving up bombs for stage clear and collecting the red/blue markers, it's just non-existent.

Yeah, I wouldn't disagree with a lot of that. I like the game, but I haven't really even felt like trying any new runs lately because getting any further would probably take me at least 25 minutes for one run. I despise the little boat enemies in stage 3, also.

Maybe it's just because of how I was most recently playing it, but the checkpoints really don't bother me, as most power ups are completely unnecessary. The thing that aggravates me is losing the bonus chain from max-speed, and potentially stocked bombs. (Sometimes I stock them, sometimes I don't.)

I do wish more people had voted for Xexex or Twin Hawk, but I'm glad the overall participation, and enjoyment level seems to have been fairly good.

Better than it has been. Much better than Rapid Hero. When Homura comes rolling around, it's probably gonna be back to those levels again

Rapid Hero>>>>Sheinryu

For the parts of the game I've seen, I largely agree with Mike's criticisms. Usually sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard is enough to spur me to keep playing, but this time I'm not feeling it. Maybe tonight, maybe not.
