Under-appreciated or unknown N64 games?
Under-appreciated or unknown N64 games?
I've loved the N64 since I started playing video games. But even though I have a well-sized collection, almost every game is from Rare or Nintendo. I'm talking about the standard games that everybody thinks of when they think about the N64: Mario 64, Smash Bros, Goldeneye, Zelda, Star Fox, Banjo Kazooie, etc. I love all these games to death, but I need more. Are there any other games for the N64 worth playing?

I always liked Buck Bumble and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, but overall, I don't feel that the N64 library is particularly strong - the PS1 dominates it, in my opinion.

Mischief Makers too me was truly an underrated classic

They aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoyed both of the Goemon games for the N64. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon and Goemon's Great Adventure (or Mystical Ninja 2 in other markets). I also really liked Mischief Makers, which is a sort of 2d platformer by Treasure. All three got mediocre reviews when they came out, but I really enjoyed them. Space Station Silicone Valley and Jet Force Gemini were also really underrated.

If you want to import Sin and Punishment is also a really good game you could try out

350ish games across all regions on the N64 compared to the 2000+ across all regions for the PS1, just by sheer numbers it dominates.Retrogamer0001 wrote:I always liked Buck Bumble and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, but overall, I don't feel that the N64 library is particularly strong - the PS1 dominates it, in my opinion.
That being said the N64's library may be short, but many of it's games hold up much better than those of the PS1's.
However because of the low number of released games (even compared to the SNES before it with 700, just in NA) you are not really going to find many 'unknown' games (unless relatively new to the system), etc unless you start digging into the JPN backlog.
As fastbilly1 said, check the RB guides, it is what they were created for.

I really like Space Station Silicon Valley. It's weird, occasionally funny and has an interesting gimmick behind it with lots of little puzzles to solve.
I can't think of many "unknown" N64 games. I don't even consider that one.

Been meaning to replay Hybrid Heaven, that's a pretty under the radar/forgotten game.
