uh, I guess it would depend who's playing. Like I said earlier, I love bullet hell stuff and find that genre really comforting. But stuff like Gradius IV makes me rip my hair out and quit during Stage 1. BoneSnapDeez is maybe totally opposite me. Who's to say which is truly "harder"?
I personally think that "bullet hell" games are a bit easier due to small, easily identifiable hit boxes and the geometric paterns of the relatively slow moving projectiles. While those games force me to dodge - and thwart my instinct to attack continuously - they are somewhat predictable and fair. I find "memorization" shmups with unpredictable projectiles - like Gradius - to be much harder.

exactly. Survival in a bullet hell often feels like mastering a puzzle game to me. Scoring is a totally diff matter of course. But yeah, those memorization shmups I just don't have the same patience for.

Everytime I think about or say how much I hate it, I have a strange need to go back to it.

This game seriously pisses me off. :x
I forgot about the checkpoints too. A game that hard makes it worse.

I tried credit-feeding Last Resort once and I still couldn't beat it, because I got stuck at one particular checkpoint. I did get pretty far, though...

Just had a quick blast on Last Resort; made it to near the end of Stage 3 on one credit. Not too bad considering I haven't played it in ages.

Well, just played Last Resort again.

This time I got to the 3rd stage boss and died. So, apparently I'm getting better.

Been playing a few Neo shmups lately: Blazing Star, Last Resort, Strikers 1945+, and a little Prehistoric Isle 2 here and there.
