Why did I ignore this game when it came out? Yeah the soundtrack is iffy and there is no story to speak of. However, it's a sandbox game in the purest sense and it's incredibly fun to jump from rooftop to rooftop shooting gangsters, and then take your car off some sweet jumps. Art style is pretty good too, doesn't look nearly as dated as I thought it would.
Don't feel bad, lots of people ignored it.

But I love the hell out of that game. It's colorful and stylish and the open world is legitimately fun to explore. Once you're leveled up you feel like this awesome, Robocop-style unstoppable force of justice.

Only more jumpy.

Didn't like the direction the sequel took things in with zombies and a darker, grittier look and feel but it's okay. I definitely prefer the first game. It's one of my favorite sandbox style games, if not my favorite.

This is good thread. I especially like it since for the past year or so, I've been limiting my game purchases and going through my backlog. The most recent game I played is The Chronicles or Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. I got this a couple years ago when it was ~3 bucks on Steam. I mainly got it for Escape from Butcher Bay since I've been meaning to play it for years. I figured I'd get the updated version. I put the game on the backburner and actually forgot I even had it installed.

I liked it for the most part. It has a grim and oppressive atmosphere and interesting character interactions. The confrontations with the other major characters were intense and often quite brutal. On the other hand, the stealth gameplay kinda sucked. For the first part of the game it was alright, but when you get the Tranquilizer Gun things get dull. The action while exciting is pretty standard fare. When the game gets actiony, you have a choice of a few different guns and you engage in cover based shooting. Later in the game, this isn't so much of a problem as the nature of the climax makes the combat more engaging. At least Riddick makes better use of its limited weaponry better than SiN Episode 1. It's a fun game, just not quite the gem it was made out to be in the mid-2000s.

All the time.

I bought Super Metroid in like '98. I didn't play it until like four years later and immediately thought, "What the hell was your problem!? Why didn't you play this sooner?"

I guess, if I started playing anything now, it might fit under this category ... I seem to purchase games far more quickly than I could play them. As for arbitrarily waiting ... I'm doing that a bit now for Last of Us. Not sure what my issue is, I'm sure I'll love it once I dive in.

Oh you sound like me...I buy all these games and never play them lol..just not enough time and I sort have an addiction to being on the PC...I NEED to be on it. So even when I do have time to sit and play games...I spend that time on my PC..I need to stop doing that.

Space Quest

I bought this back when I was in high school because I was curious about Sierra's "Quest" games. I remember being endlessly frustrated, dying endlessly, and just finding the whole thing more annoying than fun. I never got far... AT ALL.
Then I decided to give it a go and OH MAN I CAN FINALLY APPRECIATE IT. I only played through the first bit of the game, escaping the space ship. But now I can appreciate the HIGH TENSION associated with the timed self-destruct sequence and the wandering enemies. After some deaths, I find a different way to go or an item I missed before.
It's still pretty unforgiving and I'm sure I'll be consulting a walkthrough regularly but I'm ACTUALLY ENJOYING IT!
