Unfortunately GS is a necessary evil.Luke wrote:You guys go back to complaining about a retail chain that you all actually like but continue to complain about.
The only purchases I make from there is when the value of something I am looking for is below the rest of the market. If I purchase a new game, I do so from my local game store. The game is still sealed, and I feel good about supporting small business.

They are good for some things. I like today I got a copy of SNK Arcade Classics that goes for $15 (buy it now) on Ebay, for $7 from them.

I hate the fact that gamestop has put a lot of good game stores out of buisness though some have survived where I put most of my business but some Gamestop stores do have good employees and service up until they have to give you the 5 minute shpeel about pre-ordering games and joining the power up club which I can tell most of them reaaly hate doing. As most of them are gamers themselves, I'm sure they understand how shitty that is. Corporate 'Merica

I will agree I hate the stupid Preorder/trade in speech they have to give every time you make a purchase. However the Power Up membership is actually pretty cool in my opinion. For $14 you get 10% off all preowned merchandise, a B2G1 coupon(last time I actually got 2), 12 issues of Game Informer, and access to the rewards program which while not that amazing can be a good source of coupons or swag after a couple of sales.GazongaJoe wrote:I hate the fact that gamestop has put a lot of good game stores out of buisness though some have survived where I put most of my business but some Gamestop stores do have good employees and service up until they have to give you the 5 minute shpeel about pre-ordering games and joining the power up club which I can tell most of them reaaly hate doing. If you are going to bother shopping at gamestop go ahead and pick up a power up card they literally pay for themselves within the first 2-3 purchases.

Metroid Prime Trilogy was never released with a white case and slip cover, and GameStop doesn't make a habit of creating professionally designed slips to replace ones that weren't with the game.
Metroid Trilogy was not reprinted, only had a Five Month Pressing which is why it is so pricey along with the short print run of US Xeonoblade. The Xeonoblade which looked new had an R sticker underneath the price label, a sign it passed thru the Refurbish Center.mas wrote:I wrote a thread on this the other day. They are reprints that were new and was being sold as used to mark up the price. I also have a close friend who works at a gamestop and told me last week him and his boss got a ups package that had these games and they were new and sealed and they removed the packing and put a used tag on the games. It's becoming a dead issue now. Everyone is getting word and gamestop is dropping prices on these two games.
Gamestop DOES NOT manufacture games, only cleans them up at the Refurbish Center.
THE UGLY
Gamestop does print just case cover slip labels, they did that for their Best Sellers Display Rack. This happened even when PS2 games were winding down. I saw five empty cases of PS2 San Andreas and PS2 Star Wars Battle Front with the custom covers, yet all the games were stripped months earlier to just yellow envelopes!
Yes those are Gamestop Printed Covers in empty cases.

Some of those are still worth picking up because they're so damn discounted.CRTGAMER wrote: THE UGLY

Both my GameStop in the Springs and the two I like in Denver don't have a single PS2 game and haven't since 2011 probably. I'm surprised you can find those at all.
Older. Not wiser.

Same here my local store had been open only 2 years prior to the retail death of the PS2. They were the first people in my area to get rid of PS2 gamesRyaNtheSlayA wrote:Both my GameStop in the Springs and the two I like in Denver don't have a single PS2 game and haven't since 2011 probably.
