I got a copy of Giants for the PS3 in today (Amazon BF $39 deal) but it'll stay unopened until Christmas since it's for my daughter.
Re: Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure - a surprisingly great gam
Giants is just as good, but in slightly different ways. The writing isn't as well done, but the level designs are very good. The new figures are great. The reposed old figures look fantastic. The levels take longer to complete, but there are fewer of them. There are three sets of arena challenges as well as "Skystones" to keep you busy. The game has three levels of difficulty, and "hard" is actually kind of hard at the higher levels. Once the game is completed, "nightmare" difficulty is unlocked, but I haven't finished the game to find out just how difficult that is.
I am setting aside one of each element from series 2. I am planning to play through nightmare mode with just those eight.

Re: Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure - a surprisingly great gam
So anyone who has the 360 or PS3 version, can you play them with an Arcade stick?
I know it is Left stick to move and facebuttons for interfacing. But do you use the right stick for anything? If it is something that is not super time critical, we could probably make do with a stick that supports swapping to be right stick.
Since we have been working on arcade cabinets, my wife asked me about building one for general gaming (think like mjmjrs wooden candy inspired) and I figured I would add in Skylanders. She also wants to use it as a DDR setup.

My boys' cab is set up w/madcatz arcade sticks - I want to say that's what they use, but I also recall they were playing something that would not support the arcade sticks and I had to switch 'em over to pads. I "think" that was Marvel Infinity Guantlet...I can have them load it up later and just confirm 100% though...
We were at Target yesterday and it was neat - they have a display for Disney Infinity and Skylanders Swapforce. All 4 kids thought the swapforce thing was the thing to get and interest in the Infinity take off was limited.
Also, I find this VERY interesting / funny:

Re: Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure - a surprisingly great gam
Have meant to post here a few times...
To confirm, Fast, yes, arcade sticks work on 360 version for sure.
My kids are loving Swap Force (as am I) on Wii U. I'm VERY impressed w/the swap-able characters. Initially I was turned off by the gimmick - I was concerned pieces would get lost and they would be too small. Both fears were dashed after we got a few. The magnet is very strong - these aren't going to separate on their own and fall into your couch cushions. Also, they are about in the middle, size-wise, of original skylanders and the Giants, about 3". The Swap Force game has a lot of platforming and timed type stages - a lot of really fun side (but necessary) stuff. Excellent. The added elements of digging, transporting, etc is really neat as well - the upgrades are great too and of course they did all they could to make the characters and their traits from previous games transfer over.
Also, Toysrus.com is doing a 3 for $35 on the swap-able and Giants figures (which is great, seeing as most are $15-25/each on amazon). Free ship over $49.

Re: Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure - a surprisingly great gam
When Swap Force was released, I bought every new figure, ignoring the series 2/3. I stored them away and planned to give the whole set to my daughter for Christmas. The first game was amazing for us. The second game was decent, and I gave it to her for her birthday last year.
As Christmas approached, I realized that I had over $300 invested in just this single gift. I decided to return it all and buy a variety of other gifts. The total was $354 just for the starter kit, every swap figure, and new regular Skylander. Instead I bought eight other gifts for probably half the amount of money.
I didn't like the direction the game had taken, so while I think we would have enjoyed playing it, it probably would have been collecting dust after a month. We will be using the other gifts I gave her for years.

Ehh maybe this will be the thing that distracts people from the retro scene ha ha. All laughing aside though, I've always wanted to try this Skylander thing what's the big deal behind it besides the collecting of the figures?

Hmm I had no interest in swapforce, but now that I can get a decent setup for $100...Granted our copy of Giants is still unopened so I probably should not buy the new one.
