The Wikipedia article for the show makes a pretty strong case; although it is not a total anthology series (there is a story arc stringing along many episodes), at least 2/3 of the episodes went away from that story arc and had anthology elements. Perhaps in the interest in moving this thread along towards that of a discussion format, I should include it.
And there's the very obvious fact that Scully and Mulder are always in episodes. In an anthology series, there are not recurring characters, locations, or anything recurring at all except for maybe a host that introduces each episode.

Another good point. Maybe I should have kept it to the 1980s? I was originally gonna limit to the 80s, but a few series reached into the 90s and I thought it would sound weird.

I always liked Tales from the Crypt and Tales from the Darkside.

Or, as my Dad called them, Tales from the Crik (because he knows I hate that word) and Tales from the Crypt for Black people.

alright, this *almost* fits here, but fans of these kinds of shows might remember this. There's this show that I've been hunting for for YEARS and nobody is ever able to help me figure out what it was.

Early or mid-90's.

The show took movies (in my memory it was only horror movies, but it's possible they did others and I only saw horror movie episodes) and then condensed them into a 10 or 15 or 30 minute version and just narrated a summary of what happened in the parts they cut out. Basically, it was like a Cliff's Notes version of a movie so you wouldn't have to sit through the whole thing. I think the idea was that they'd just show b-movies, and cut out all the boring dialogue and stuff and just show the cool parts.

It was on cable, but was edited for content. In my mind they'd use some kind of animation (maybe it was like hearts or something?) to cover up extreme gore or nudity.

It may have been on USA Network, as they showed similar b-movies on Up All Night. but I've checked Wiki for every show they had and couldn't figure it out.

The one movie I am sure was shown was Pumpkinhead. I'm also pretty sure that the first Troll was on there as well.

Does anybody have any clue what I'm talking about? I've searched for this for years. I've honestly spent more hours than I care to admit doing Google searches for like "pumpkinhead short version," and random things like that to see if I could find it but always come up with nothing.

There was a black version! Remember the movie Tales From The Hood?

The only thing I came up with was USA's Saturday Nightmares which showed horror films and also episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Ray Bradbury Theater.

Just like a good Name That Game thread, I will not give up. It's TV, it's gotta be easier than identifying arcade games

Sound like a fantastic mix! I would have liked to see that.

Maybe a little Outer Limits and Twilight Zone thrown in there.

Speaking of which, the 90s Outer Limits should be on that list.

How about Goosebumps? Sure, it might be a bit on the kiddy side, but it fits the criteria. I liked Are You Afraid Of The Dark better though...

True, that could fit in as well. AYAOTD was better.

Still trying to figure out that show for Noise too. It must have been him just watching it cuz I can't find it

I wracked my brain for quite a while and, I've gotta say, I have no idea what the hell show you're talking about.

I've done some research and the only thing that comes close is Drive-In Reviews with Buzz Kilman. It aired in 1993 for two seasons on Comedy Central and
featured particularly gruesome film clips from their favorite horror movies.
Of course, as far as I can tell, the show only lasted for about 5 episodes, so this probably isn't it.

Perhaps you would have better luck asking the people at TV Tropes.
