I really don't have a genre I don't play at least every once in awhile. I think that's limiting yourself. A good game is a good game. Sure maybe you're not a puzzle fan, but over the years I've found that at the very least the really great games transcend the whole "I'll pass. Don't like the genre" thing.

I don't play MMOs at all but I would argue that, as popular as some of them are, that's a sub-genre. I've played many an RPG.

I've recently gotten in to RPGs, I used to not be able to play them. I couldn't keep myself focused or interested long enough to get the the good stuff. Of course I played the pokemon series and ogre battle, but beyond that I thought most RPG's were boring (boy was wrong). I dont play them on home consoles yet, but I do always have a game going on the handhelds.

I can admit to being guilty of only playing certain genres... Its more of not finding the right games in other genres I think. Like for puzzle games, the only puzzle game I ever really got
into was Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine (lol) Ive never been too into racing games that weren't kart based. Civ/Starcraft/AoE are the only strategy Ive ever gotten into. I like the idea of RPG's and Ive beaten a few but most just start off so slowly for me I get bored fast. I have never gotten into shmups, I always try them but they feel too intimidating. It feels like in the first level your already dying all the time (well I am anyways)

Well, I have problems with RTSs too. I want to like them, but I can't play them without pausing all the time. I like to think, not react. Turn based strategy lets me do that.

RTSs are like fighting games. You need to be able to think and act at the same time. Though playing a RTS games single player campaign is far less demanding than playing against another human being

You certainly have to think in RTS. Reacting means you're losing.

And even though I have many friends that were/are into RTS, I just could never find a reason to pick one up.. LoL popularity is becoming ridiculous these days.. And they play the same map over and over correct?

Fighting games are waaaay outside my comfort zone.

Only fighting games I've ever sunk substantial time into have been Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat I/II. And I've barely played those since I was a kid.

Just never gotten into most, I guess. I've never been good at games that require "skill" (dexterity, hand-eye coordination, whatever). I'm also terrible at remembering the button combos for special moves.

I have some (supposedly) really decent fighting games sitting on the shelves here - multiple King of Fighters Neo Geo CD games, Samurai Spirits, a handful of Fatal Fury titles, Dead or Alive 1-3, Art of Fighting... I should dust these off and see how it goes.

I've also never gotten into survival horror, for the most part. I was really turned off by the first Resident Evil and Silent Hill games and never bothered to dig too deeply into the genre. I do like Resident Evil 4 and have been scared poopless by Amnesia multiple times. Are the Fatal Frame games decent? Those look right up my alley.

LoL isn't really an RTS, it is a Moba and there are multiple maps in League of Legends.

Starcraft 2 is a competitive multiplayer RTS. DOTA2/HON/LOL are MOBA games, which spawned from multiplayer mods in Starcraft and Warcraft.


If you don't like the action and tank controls in survival horror, you could try Clock Tower, Sanitarium and I have no mouth and I must scream, which are adventure games. And then there's VTMB and SS2 which are horror-ARPGs, though SS is survival horror where as VTMB is just occasionally horror. Fatal Frame games are good yes.
