If you think Z Gundam's misogyny is bad (and it is), give Victory Gundam a shot.

I literally think Tomino's underlying message in Victory is, "women suck."

0080 is certainly the most human and most powerful Gundam work. I totally agree with that.

You'd probably like 08th MS Team, it seems like it'd be up your alley given what you've described but like all Gundam shows it's not without its own annoyances. As for G Gundam, at least I consider it a classic but I'm a sucker for super robots and Imagawa stuff.

Hmm, I would agree DBZ is a classic, as long as you consider it using the uncut Japanese version and not the kiddy bullshit US version. I am actual a big DBZ/GT fan (not so much DB).

Also, I would like to add Initial D to the list.

Then what was the "kids get off my lawn" comment about? It all read to me like 'newer anime is not good enough to ever reach the heights of older anime'. But perhaps I misinterpreted him (easy to do on the internet).

We all know "classic" is a subjective term and has no defined chronological point of reference, so it's all a matter of opinion entirely. For example, I think Death Note is a classic series because of what it accomplished in dramatic storytelling... yet it's not even a decade old. Since I think it will be remembered fondly for many years to come, it's already a classic series in my belief.

Eh, it may not be a set amount of time but it can't really be too new either. Classic is usually defined by as something being judged over a period of time or being traditional yet enduring over a period of time.

Something can't be/become traditional when it has barely been around long enough to influence a new movement/generation and it hasn't endured much when it has still mostly been judged by the same age group.

Unless I missed it, this thread has sadly been lacking Wings of Honneamise.

KDub I understand what you're saying and I actually agree with it deep down inside. But I'm pompous enough to feel that I can declare a series to have classic potentiality nonetheless.

Right you are! Excellent movie (except for THAT ONE SCENE). Gunbuster is another Gainax classic that I love endlessly.

Yeah, I'm all for having that character have a moment of insane weakness before turning a corner, but wish it had been handled differently. The end always gives me goosebumps though. I love the excellent use of silence.

I wouldn't have minded THAT ONE SCENE so much if there had been an ounce of foreshadowing. It really came out of nowhere.

Teknoman blew my mind as a kid. Watching it later as an adult it still held up.
