I feel bad for the kids whose parents bought them GBC games for their regular Game Boys. Reminds me of the time my mom bought me some Gamecube games for Christmas, even though she knew we had a PS2.

Well, I did say thank you since I was receiving a gift. I just decided to let it wait until Mom wanted to try the games out. I put the GC disk in my PS2 and said, "Oh, this is a Gamecube game, not a PS2 game."

She got kind of mad and complained that the games should just work, no matter what system you put them in. Game "manufacturers" could make more money if everyone could play their games, right? That would be nice.

She sounds like a pc gamer

That was a reasonable assumption during the NES days.

If I had a Gamecube and Mom bought my PS2 games, I could have had a lot more fun with it.

Because the power switch slides into the dent when it's flipped.

BD is talking about the dent or bump on the face of the cart, not the lock notch.

My guess is that they did it to avoid confusion. A lot of people don't notice the notch in the cart, so that wouldn't have been a good indicator.

Reminds me of one Christmas (1987, I think) when I still had my original 2600, and my folks got Intellivision games thinking they'd fit. I even tried them, because I had not as much knowledge as I do now (I was 10, gimme a break!) and they did not work, but fortunately they did get 2600 games as backup, Haunted House and ET (DON'T HATE I ASKED FOR THAT ONE AND I LIKE THE GAME)

Would you spend a significant amount of money, say over $300, for an item that you want strictly to add it to your collection?

What do you mean "free and clear"? Like it's disposable money? Either way I'd do it. I mean why not? I love to buy rare games. It's like owning a piece of gaming history.

I don't know man. Is it really worth it just to have it? I mean, I'm not much of a collector anymore as you know. Maybe I'm not the person to ask. I personally wouldn't. That's a lot of money. You could nearly pay for an entire upcoming system for $300. You could also buy a ton of other cheaper games you could actually play. Even if I had that disposable income, I don't think I could bring myself to pay that much for a game I would never play.

Now, if you see the value rising, then maybe I would...

Probably not in the particular situation you played out but I would spend $150 to get a sealed copy of Yakuza 2 and $150 on a sealed "hot coffee" version of GTA San Andreas.
