It isn't the bump versus trough that prevents you, it's the notch in the upper right from the power switch. Look back at the pictures on Burning Doom's post. I believe the pocket doesn't have that.

I see. I wonder why the Pocket was designed differently? Nintendo didn't want you to turn on your older Game Boy with GBC games inserted, but with the Pocket they just left a note saying you're an idiot for even trying.

I feel bad for the kids whose parents bought them GBC games for their regular Game Boys. Reminds me of the time my mom bought me some Gamecube games for Christmas, even though she knew we had a PS2.

All these years of assuming the bump was the deciding factor. It was the most obvious physical difference between the compatible/non-compatible GBC games. I wonder why they bothered to put the original GB indent in the GB compatible GBC games?

Because the power switch slides into the dent when it's flipped.

Well, I did say thank you since I was receiving a gift. I just decided to let it wait until Mom wanted to try the games out. I put the GC disk in my PS2 and said, "Oh, this is a Gamecube game, not a PS2 game."

She got kind of mad and complained that the games should just work, no matter what system you put them in. Game "manufacturers" could make more money if everyone could play their games, right? That would be nice.

My parents used to think the same thing. That a game console was like a VCR, so to speak, and that I simply happened to own one manufactured by Nintendo.
