I keep my spare player at work and it does not have anti-skate. Waiting for a better one to pop up for cheap so I can replace it. I have no idea why I keep that one there, as I do most of my listening at work.

Does your player have a replaceable stylus? You need to know how much weight is recommended to be on the stylus, then balance your tonearm and set the counterweight appropriately. It's not really hard to do if you understand the concept. Having too little weight on the needle will make it skate if the record has a lot of bass. Too much weight and the needle can jump unpredictably too. Also, dirty/old needles won't sit as deeply in the groove and in addition to causing groove wear they're more likely to skip/skate as well.SpoonyBard wrote:My old records always played fine on my thrift store record players, but with a lot of newer albums, i've run into skating. Which is no fun at all.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

So yes, the quality is not there yet, but this is really exciting.
I never knew about these laser turn tables. Sounds like something out of Star Trek.marurun wrote:Have any of you had the opportunity to use any of those pricey laser turntables out there? They use a laser instead of a needle to read the groove, and they are analog, not digital, in the way they read the groove. Very gentle on records, though the record has to be clean for a quality read.
