And I also agree with you about the length of a lot of modern games. A lot of them seem to have a lot of padding.
I think I made a pretty long post about this once. I honestly can't see how anyone considers this game to be on the same level as Final Fantasy VI or Super Metroid.

SoM gets a lot of praise, but FF6 and Super Metroid are referenced a lot more, they're much more well received.
I still love Secret of Mana, i think back and the one thing that irritated me was when the other characters would get stuck on something and had to backtrack a bit.
Since were on the topic though, i disliked Sword of Mana (Final Fantasy Adventure) the crafting system was useless.
I dont like the Art direction the Mana series took starting with Legend of Mana, its like they changed art director's or something... oh wait, they did.
But i LOVE the music in Legend of Mana, omg so much better than Secret of Mana imo.
Trying to play Secret of Mana with 3 players with the multi-tap was a hopeless mess, at least in my experience, if you do it, you kinda have to just accept the inevitable.
Dawn of Mana killed the series, not sure what they were thinking, but i really tried to like it, but it just wasnt happening. If you havent played Dawn of Mana, play it and youll see why.
I guess I will share some, as I've only really commented on others' posts.
Castlevania IV is one of the weakest 2D CV games, with only Simon's Quest and Harmony of Dissonance behind it.
FF VI is the weakest of the SNES trilogy.
First party Nintendo games after the SNES are boring and stale. I have not played a single one that has interested me, and I have played many of the "greats" (Metroid Prime, the Zelda games, Mario games, have dabbled into quite a bit and don't care for any of it).
Fire Emblem is not a good SRPG. Shining Force, Super Robot Taisen, Langrisser, and FF Tactics (and several others) destroy it.
As a general rule, Japanese game design > Western game design.
I would rather play Madden and Call of Duty for the rest of my life than ever look at an Elder Scrolls game again.
