Also, maybe I just have bad luck and live in a crappy town, but My gamestop doesnt have 5 dollar games at least none that aren't sports or like bottom of the barrel crap games, and even then, some of those are like 8 bucks here.
Prices are set by corporate for every store. $5 games in my town are $5 games in yours. They may not be there at the moment, but you can have them ordered in.
I don't expect gamestop to barter, but it makes no sense when I can take 10 games in there, and not even be able to afford to trade those for ONE new game.
After a game is released, typically it's price continues to go down. If you wait a year or two to trade them in (or are trading in games they have an overabundance of) they're definitely going to be worth less. Considering they take in such a large amount of games, they definitely have to consider what's going to happen at the end of the current generations life where everything they have money wrapped up in is pretty much $15 or less and they're offering buy one get one on those games. If they've got more than $5 in each of those games, then they're taking a massive hit to clear out all of that inventory.

The benefit to Gamestop is, it doesn't matter how many copies of a title they have, they're going to take it. They have the money to buy it today and they'll give it to you.

Also, you may have to hit up sales or wait for them to clear some things out, but you can get better deals there than almost anywhere else. I'd rather take the time to sell my things myself and get accessories for a tenth of what they sell for online. Than have them pay everyone whatever they feel they're entitled to for their used game and have them out of business in the year.

and been offered 2 and 3 dollars for them. Thats highway robbery.
That's business. If they offered you $2-3 for them, that means they have way too many copies. They probably put that game on the shelf for $9.99 or less and will be lucky if they actually sell it for any profit before they discontinue support for the system and throw all of them in the trash.

Gamestop isn't going to give to Ebay prices...EVER. You get better prices on here and Ebay because you are selling directly to the consumer. So you pass on the savings, as well as make more money. I agree that Gamestop gives you low prices but you have to understand that they give you cash instantly, while they have to wait for the product to sell. They have calculate in the price of keeping the doors open, lights on, paying employees, how long it's going to sit around, etc. It may seen like they're bending you over but In reality they are giving you somewhat of a reasonable price. For example if they buy a game from you for $15 and place it on the shelf for $45, by the time it sells (lets say 2-3 weeks) they will probably only make maybe $10-$15. I admit $8 for the headsets is ridiculous but why did your friend accept that? It's not like they held a gun to his head. Sure it might take a week or two before you get paid on Ebay but for that price, it's worth it.

When I want to quote multiple people, I right click the quote button and "open in new tab" for each post I quote. Then I copy and paste the text into a single post. I actually find it easier than the way you would do it otherwise.

You could just scroll down in the window down below the post window and click quote next to each one you want.

Or just type

Code: Select all
quoted text
On topic, the last thing I bought at gamestop was a copy of Persona 2 for the PSP. It was marked down to $20, and they still had the promotional tarot cards. I should have just pirated it and sent the $20 directly to Atlus.

I guess I should have clarified. I know the prices are set by corporate, but my gamestop chooses not to stock cheap games. End of story, Ive asked management myself. Store policy at this particular gamestop is to only stock a certain amount of each game, (I dont recall the amount but it was low, Less than 5 I believe unless its a new title) and everything else gets sent to a warehouse or something. Maybe other gamestops? Idk. Ive seen gamestops with that box of ps2 games in the sleeves for cheaper, ours doesnt have that at all. Also I believe the prices set by corporate are probably just a minimum. I just took a look at the gamestop.com website, and Fight Night Round 3 is listed at 2.99 on there, I just bought a copy probably a month ago for 6.99.

Ask for the store number of your local shop. Call Game Stops that have the game you are looking for, and have them ship it to your store number.

Simple as that.
