Oh, hell yeah, Gate of Thunder is absolutely a fantastic beginner shmup. Not super hard, full of variety, fantastic graphics, animation, and soundtrack, and other bits of random awesome.

Its one of my favorites because of the pacing, for me feels like a casual game but I thought it was really well done and I get excited every time I play it. :P

Dunno how I forgot about that game. I played a demo for it so many times....(I miss random demo discs)

Ah the OPM demo discs...I still have the one with Einhander on it, and the first one too with Intelligent Cube and Parappa the Rapper.

I wouldn't say Einhander is a beginner shmup. It gets pretty damn hard the last few levels. For me at least. Still one of my favorites.

Which of the Cave shooters on 360 is the best one to start with? I'd like to be able to see crazy later levels with bullets filling up the whole screen, so a game where there's a novice mode or something like that that lets you play even if you keep on dying to unlock new stages would be cool. So above all else I want a super hard game with an easy mode that lets you see how crazy the game gets  Akai Katana looks nice because it has co-op, but Dodonpachi Resurrection has a novice mode. Which is more bullet hellish?
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

DDP: Resurrection is definitely more touhou-y. Both definitely have tons of bullets filling up the screen, but DDP is more manageable, IMO.

How about Mushihime-sama Futari? I've heard that it has the hardest SHMUP boss ever or something like that

I haven't played it, but that and Pink Sweets are touted as some of the tougher shmups.

So does any one know if the 360 version of Mushihime-sama Futari include all the crazy bosses and if there's an easy mode or something like that so you can see the bosses? I checked out the classic game room review of that game and it looked relatively easy, he probably only played the first levels. But there's a lot of different versions of these games so I wonder if the harder levels aren't in the console version?

Atleast judging by those videos, if you play on easy, you don't get to see any of the true bullet hell

I'm deffo gonna get it but isn't it more of a regular shmup compared to other Cave products?
