Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
What are the hardware differences between the Gameboy and Gameboy Colors?
Also, were there any GBC games that could be played on GB?

1. Wikipedia.
2. Yes, they have black cartridges. There are also a few colored ones like Donkey Kong Land III and some of the Pokemon games. Black carts include Dragon Warrior 1/2, Legend of the River King, and anything with "DX" in the title off the top of my head. I think there's a full list on Wikipedia.

I see.
Does anyone know how many units the GBC sold by itself, not including the original GB?

The black carts were Game Boy Color games that were compatible with the original Game Boy (where they would display in black & white) as well as the Super Game Boy (SNES).
Clear Game Boy Color games were (initially) only playable on a Game Boy Color handheld. Of course now they are also playable on a GBA (non-Micro) and Game Boy Player (GameCube).

A few years ago I swapped out all of my N64 controllers' analog sticks with a much better model (feels like the GameCube's). You can get it here cheap:TheGregzilla wrote:So this was my first time attempting to fix an n64 controller.
Totally worth it IMO, night and day difference.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
There's an easy way to tell, even without the packaging.
GBC games that are compatible with the original GB don't have the raised bump on the front of the cartridge. The raised bump, actually made if physically impossible to stick a non-compatible GBC game in your original Game Boy.
Raised Bump on a GBC Game:

In contrast, a regular GB game or a compatible GBC game actually has an indented pocket where the raised bump would be on the GBC-incompatible game, allowing you to play them on your original Game Boy:

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Finally bought my first Famicom game today (well, ordered it - it's not here yet).
Can't believe it took me this long, I've been purchasing other import games (Super Famicom, PC Engine, Neo Geo, WonderSwan Color) for ages.

I need to check out some shmups for the Amiga CD32. They look pretty damn sweet.

That raised bump didn't stop me.

Usually when you insert a GBC game you get a message, but I hear some games have secret minigames or extra content than can only be accessed on a monochrome game boy.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Maybe the Game Boy Pocket is shaped differently than the regular Game Boy?
You get a lovely error message when you insert a WonderSwan Color game into a WonderSwan as well.
