I was checking out this four-minute trailer for Kaze Tachinu and it gave me the chills. I guess Miyazaki himself was saying that it's the first of his movies that has made him cry, and I think I could understand that. (He also apparently cried when listening to a recording of the theme song, "Hikouki Gumo," while working on the storyboards, and I think I get that even more.)

It's times like this that I hate that Disney has distributing rights on Ghibli movies in the US. I'm sure it won't be like Princess Mononoke, where select theaters screened a subtitled version. If I were still in Japan, I would've immediately gone to see this movie in theaters. It looks incredible.

Excellent. Now you just need get Seasons 3 and 4 and watch the subs for the Season 5 online and then you'll be all caught up in time for when the reboot airs sometime in "winter." Whenever the hell that is.

Way to be vague, anime people.

I normally don't support people torrenting their anime... but if it's between that and PAYING for bootleg DVDs, I'll suggest finding a torrent.

I just started watching Oda Nobuna no Yabou because a friend recommended it. The main character is interesting - he's the "average, perverted" high school kid but he has more balls than any average high schooler I've ever met. In the first episode, he walks right up to Dousan and straight up tells him to give Nobuna the most important province in Japan. He also constantly harasses samurai girls because he knows he's too valuable for them to kill.

"Oh, hey there Kitsuie! We were just talking about your breasts!"

What a guy...

Ideally, of course, I'd say buy it. But since it's not licensed here, and has never been licensed here, that's unfortunately not an option.

I suppose there's always the option of tracking the episodes down on Youtube. Though, it will take longer to watch that way.

Didn't know they were working on a reboot. Also I do plan on getting all of the seasons.

Wow, it has all the classic Miyazaki design marks and the more recent Ghibli dabbling in digital for key effects. Looks rather attractive.

I'm kind of shocked that Gasaraki's reception seems to range from lukewarm to decent. I'm halfway through and finding it to be on par with Evangelion, if not better in some aspects.

As I read through criticisms it seems like the most common ones are that it is "boring" or too cluttered with genres. I'm not bored by it in the slightest, but I guess I can see where people are coming from as it is very thick with dialogue. That's not really a flaw though... it's just a dialogue heavy show. I find the subject matter to be very interesting, with the focus being mainly on modern warfare and the war market. I love how it is presented too, switching between news broadcasts (ranging from misinformation broadcasts, propaganda, or war footage), behind the scenes war meetings, and character pov.

I think the "clutter" of genres is handled fine. Although there is supernatural, mecha/action, and psychological all going on, the balance feels perfect to me and no one thing is ever over abundant or hammered on. The supernatural does seem out of place, but I'm loving how it is all ancient Japanese themed and I like where it's going. I guess I'll have to watch the second half to see how I feel about it all.
